EASTON, Mass. (March 3, 2021) – The Stonehill College softball team has been picked to finish fifth in the Northeast Division this season in the preseason coaches' poll, as voted on by the Northeast-10 Conference's 14 coaches, as announced by the conference office Wednesday.

In the Skyhawks' shortened 2020 season due to COVID-19, Stonehill went 7-5 with all of its games played in Florida. Over the course of the past 11 years, the team has played in NE10 playoffs five times.

Saint Anselm College led the Northeast Division receiving 91 points with 13 first-place votes, while Southern New Hampshire University placed second with 79 points and one first-place vote. Assumption University rounded out the top three with 61 points, as Bentley University totaled 55 points for fourth, and Franklin Pierce University and Stonehill received 39 points, good for a tie at fifth.

Hartman also was named to the NE10 All-Conference second team in 2019

Fourteen return from last year, including six seniors, as Head Coach Ken LeGrice, in his 12th season added five Skyhawks. In the circle, Stonehill has five pitchers including seniors Genna Hartman and Julia Perrone. Two years ago, Hartman was named to the NE10 All-Conference second team, while Michelle Theilgard earned her third honor in 2019 being named to the NE10 All-Conference second team, as well. Seniors Gianna Azzato, Maille Bennett, and Hannah Ricker will add depth to the lineup and experience in the field.

Stonehill will open the 2021 season with two non-conference doubleheaders, starting off with the University of New Haven on Saturday, March 13 at New Haven Softball Field, following that with a doubleheader at American International College on Sunday, March 14 at Judy Groff Field. The Skyhawks opening Conference matchup will welcome Bentley University to Fr. Gartland Field from March 20-21 for four games. All scheduled games are subject to change based on COVID-19 health and safety protocol.
