Volleyball Drops NEC Matchup at Saint Francis, 3-0

LORETTA, Pa. (October 21, 2023) – The Stonehill College women's volleyball team fell in three sets, 3-0 (6-25, 22-25, 22-25), Saturday night at DeGol Arena to Saint Francis (Pa.) in a Northeast Conference matchup.

Skyhawk Summary

Junior Emma Graves (Berkshire, N.Y./Newark Valley) notched a team-high nine kills along with one block assist and one dig. Freshman Lauren MacKellar (Northville, Mich./Northville) tallied seven kills in the match with a .294 kill percentage. Sophomore Mia Berardino (Rowley, Mass./Triton Regional) had five three kills, one dig, and one service ace. Freshman Abby Farrell (Reading, Mass./Reading Memorial) recorded three kills and a team-high three block assists along with a solo block. Freshman Maddie Schamaun (Rockville, Md./Wheaton) led the Skyhawks with 13 assists and had two digs.

How it Happened

SET 1 | Saint Francis started the match with the opening four points, followed by two points from the Skyhawks before the Red Flash rattled off nine straight to take a 13-2 lead in the first set. Saint Francis would go on to win the set, 25-6.

SET 2 | The Skyhawks faced a similar deficit early in the second frame as they fell behind 12-3 but began to claw their way back into the match with three straight scores and six of the next seven to trim the Red Flash lead to just five, 13-8. Stonehill got as close as four points (14-10), but Saint Francis pushed it back up to seven as they led 20-13 late in the set. The Red Flash would win the second set, holding off a late rally by the Skyhawks, and go up 2-0, winning 25-22.

SET 3 | Saint Francis began the third set with a string of points that led to a 12-2 lead, but Stonehill came roaring back into the set with a 13-6 run that made the score 18-15. The Skyhawks came within one point of the Red Flash at 19-18 but Saint Francis closed out the match and won the third set 25-22.
