Volleyball Continues 10-Game Road Trip, Drops Match at Brown in Three Sets

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (September 5, 2023) - Stonehill volleyball traveled to the Pizzitola Sports Center for a non-conference matchup at Brown amidst their 10-game road trip, falling to the Bears 3-0 (15-25, 11-25, 19-25).

Sophomore Mia Berardino was tied for the Skyhawk lead with five kills while also recording two digs and five points. Freshman Lauren MacKellar also notched five kills, had one dig, and a block assist. Senior Lauren McCloskey recorded four kills, one service ace, and two digs. were also heavily involved on the offensive side of the ball. Freshman Amaya Parnell paced Stonehill, tallying 10 assists and four digs. Freshman Maddie Schamaun was close behind with eight assists of her own, setting a new career high.

SET 1 | Brown jumped out to an early lead in the first set, scoring 11 of the first 13 points (11-2). The Skyhawks would retaliate with an 8-4 run to cut their deficit to just five (15-10) but that would be the closest they'd get for the rest of the set. The Bears closed out the set, winning 25-15.

SET 2 | The second set started similarly to the first set as Brown scored the first four points and took a seven-point advantage early on (10-3). The Bears didn't let up in the second frame, going up by as much as 14 points (23-9), before taking the set, 25-11.

SET 3 | Stonehill grabbed the lead early in the third, going up 3-2 and 4-3 while the teams traded points. The Skyhawks took their largest lead of the match (10-6) but Brown responded with a 7-1 run to regain the lead (13-11). Stonehill would keep it close and tie the score on multiple occasions (14-14, 15-15, 16-16). The Bears would convert on four kills for their final four points, pulling away at the tail end of the third set and winning the match, 25-19.

Stonehill continues their 10-game road trip when they travel to the Dartmouth Invitational in Hanover, N.H. beginning on Friday with a matchup against Hofstra before facing Dartmouth and Seton Hall on Saturday.
