How it Happened

SET 1 | Stonehill fell behind early as Manhattan scored the first four points of the match and six of the first seven. The Skyhawks chipped away at the Jasper lead until they eventually knotted the score at 14 points apiece as both McCloskey and Graves had two kills during the comeback. The teams went back and forth, tying eight more times in the match all the way up until the score was 22-22. Stonehill converted on the next three points as freshman Lauren MacKellar (Northville, Mich./Northville) sealed a first-set victory with a right-handed kill.

SET 2 | The Skyhawks carried some of their momentum into the second set, leading early on 3-1 before Manhattan rattled off five straight scores to take a 6-3 lead. The Skyhawks scored three straight to tie it before the Jaspers outscored Stonehill by five points, taking a 12-7 lead. The Jaspers built their lead up to eight points (18-10) and held their lead, winning the set 25-17 to tie the match 1-1.

SET 3 | The third set started, and the teams were neck and neck for the first 18 points as they were tied 9-9. Manhattan scored the next five points and didn't let their lead go below three points until a late rally from the Skyhawks retied the score, 22-22. Stonehill kept things close as the teams were still tied, 25-25, but the Jaspers scored the next two points to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

SET 4 | Manhattan opened with the first three scores of the fourth set and once again, Stonehill tied the score with a 4-1 run (7-7). The Jaspers doubled their point total to 14 while the Skyhawk only added two points to their score (14-9). A kill from Berardino and an ace from McCloksey brought Stonehill within three points but Manhattan responded with a 5-1 burst to push their lead to seven points (19-12).
