Encarnacao and Gannon First Place Finishes Lead Women's Track and Field at Skyhawk Invitational

EASTON, Mass. (April 30, 2022)- On a day when the Stonehill women's track and field team saw 14 top-five finishes, it was Kaytlin Encarnacao and Casey Gannon who paced the Skyhawks with two first place finishes. Encarnaco took first in the 400-meter dash and Gannon recorded a first-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. Overall on the day, Stonehill finished in third place with 103 points. Only University of Rhode Island (135.5 points) and Holy Cross (231 points) finished ahead of the Skyhawks.

It was also senior day where Stonehill honored their eight seniors: Isabelle AngeliniAbigail Creamer, Casey GannonJillian HowardIsabella Kennedy, Savanna Macaluso, Claire Mason, and Krista Stracqualursi

Highlights:

  • Encarnacao grabbed her fourth first-place finish in the 400-meter dash of the season when she crossed the finish line at 58.20 seconds. Every time she has competed in this event during the outdoor season, Encarnacao has posted a first place finish. Her time in the 400-meter is the fifth-fastest in the Northeast-10 Conference. Encarnacao also ran in the 200-meter dash for third place when she set a personal-best time of 25.97.
  • Gannon earned her fourth top-three finish (two first-place finishes) in the 400-meter hurdles when she crossed the finish line at 1:04.98. Gannon also partook in the 100-meter hurdles with a top-10 finish (sixth) at 15.25 seconds.
  • In the 1500-meter, Stonehill saw three top-10 finishes led by Howard's third-place finish when she set a personal record with a time of 4:42.96. Her strong finish is also the third-best in the NE10. Not far behind in fifth was Victoria Lombardi at 4:57.88 and rounding out the top-10 was Caitlin Swanson at ninth place (5:00.76). Just outside the top-10 was Rebecca Erhard who posted a time of 5:03.02 for 13th place in her first time ever competing in the event. 
  • For field events, Angelini notched a second-place finish in the javelin toss when she had a throw that went 35.09 meters. Kaley Enright came in a few spots back at fifth place with a toss of 33.65 meters.
  • Stracqualursi competed in three field events and posted top-10 finishes in two of three. In shoutput, Stracqualursi finished third with a toss of 12.23 meters, and then in discus, she ended up in sixth (35.07 meters). Stracqualursi wrapped up her day in the hammer throw when she finished 14th (37.00 meters).

Other Performances:

  • Creamer was the lone Skyhawk in the triple jump and she notched a top-five finish (fourth) with a jump of 10.44 meters.
  • The 100-meter hurdles saw five Stonehill runners along with Gannon claim spots within the top10: Madison Rousseau (fourth-14.69 seconds), Creamer (seventh-15.34 seconds), Macaluso (eighth-15.51 seconds-personal best), and finally Cassidy Becker (10th-15.72 seconds).
  • Madison Gunderway continued her strong freshman campaign as she set a new personal record in the hammer throw with a toss of 43.82 meters (seventh). Her throw in today's meet currently ranks within the top-five of the NE10 (fourth). 
  • In the pole vault, Stonehill saw two top-10 finishes from Haley Lightbody and Abigail Larsson who finished in fifth (3.05 meters) and eighth (2.90 meters) place respectively. 
  • Stonehill's 4x100 relay team which consisted of Macaluso, Rousseau, Ashley Warren, and Encarnacao, posted a third-place finish at 48.90 seconds.
  • Soraya Masse was the only runner in the 100-meter dash for Stonehill and she finished in sixth with a career-best time of 13.03 seconds. 
  • During the 800-meter, the Skyhawks had three runners cross the finish line within the top-10 starting with Claire Mason (fourth) at 2:21.43, right behind Mason was Emma Lawrence (fifth) with a time of 2:21.52, and finally Meghan Sambrook (eighth) at 2:23.88.
