Women's Track & Field Begins Year At Art Kadish Elm City Invitational

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (December 5, 2021)-Stonehill College women's track and field started their indoor season with a fifth place finish at the Art Kadish Elm City Invitational hosted by Southern Connecticut Univeristy Sunday afternoon. The Skyhawks saw 11 top five finishes highlighted by Krista Stracqualursi taking first place in shot put. 

Highlights:

  • Stracqualursi secured her first place finish with a 39.5 foot toss in shot put. She also competed in the weight throw event where she threw 38.4 feet for a ninth place finish. 
  • Meanwhile in the 55-meter hurdles, Stonehill freshman, Madison Rousseau nearly broke the school record in her first collegiate meet with a time of 8.43 seconds. She was just one second off Zoe Smith's record from the 2020 University of Southern Maine Invite. Fellow teammates, Savanna Macaluso, and Casey Gannon each recorded times of 8.60, and 8.71 seconds respectively for a third and fourth place finish.
  • In her first collegiate meet, Meghan Sambrook competed in the 600-meter where she recorded an impressive time of 1:46.15 and finished in second place. 
  • Stonehill's other second place finish came in the pole vault when Abigail Larson posted a mark of 9.5 feet.

Other Performances

  • Also making her collegiate debut in today's meet, was Mia LaPietra as she competed in the 200-meter dash and recorded a top-20 finish with a time of 29.86 (18th).
  • Stonehill took third place in the mile when Caroline Surrette crossed the finish line at 5:41.21.
  • In the 3000-meter, three Skyhawks took three spots within the top-ten:Jillian Callahan-11.30.61 (sixth), Margaret Gallagher-11.31.05 (seventh), Isabella Kennedy 11.47.16 (ninth). Baliee Brown also had her first collegiate meet and had a 12th place finish with a time of 12.12.62.
  • Larson recorded her second top-ten finish on the afternoon in the long jump event where she had a mark of 16.07 feet.

Stonehill will have some time off before their next meet before heading out to Harvard University for two days at the Harvard Multi & Beantown Challenge on January 6-7.
