Women's Track Collects Seven First Place Finishes At Merrimack Carnival

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (April 9, 2022)- The Stonehill College women's track & field program saw seven event wins and 13 top-three finishes to a second-place team finish at the Merrimack College Carnival at Duane Stadium this afternoon.

Highlights:

  • Freshman, Madison Rousseau paced the Skyhawks on the day with two first-place finishes in both the 100-meter dash (12.92 seconds) and the 100-meter hurdles (14.88 seconds). So far during the outdoor season, Rousseau finished within the top-10 each time she competed in the 100-meter and 100-meter hurdles. 
  • Kaytlin Encarnacao also had a strong day for Stonehill as she top-three finishes in both events she competed on Saturday. First, in the 400-meter dash, Encarnaco won the event with a blistering time of 58.83 seconds. Not far behind was Ashley Warren who had a third-place finish of 1:02.61, and Meghan Sambrook rounded out the top five in fifth place at 1:03.24. Meanwhile, in the 200-meter, she finished in second place at 26.60 seconds. Warren also partook in the 200-meter and finished fourth setting a new personal best at 27.54 seconds.
  • In the 800-meter dash, Emma Lawrence ran to a first-place finish at 2:23.09. Stonehill also saw two other top-five finishes in the race with Caroline Surrette (fourth-2:27.50) and Elizabeth Marshall (fifth-2:29.58). 
  • Jillian Howard was the lone participant for the Skyhawks in the 3,000 steeplechase and took home first place with a time of 11:13.54. Saturday's meet marked the first time in her career she competed in that event. Currently her time is the third fastest for this event in the Northeast-10 Conference
  • For field events, Abigail Creamer earned a first-place finish with a 10.51-meter leap. Eileen Durgin also competed in the event and finished in fourth place 9.44 meters). 
  • Krista Stracqualursi grabbed her first shotput win of the outdoor season with a throw of 11.81 meters.

Other Performances:

  • Along with Rousseau's first-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, the purple and white had four other runners that claimed spots within the top five. Casey Gannon was right behind Rousseau in second (15.10 seconds), Savanna Macaluso set a career-best in fourth place at 15.64, and then Creamer rounded out the top-five in fifth at 16.03. 
  • In the mile run, Claire Mason crossed the finish line at 5:16.66 which was good for a second place finish. 
  • Stonehill's 4x400 team that featured Jenna French, Lawrence, Mason, and Surrette notched second at 4:13.67. 
  • Haley Lightbody was the only member of the Skyhawk to compete in the pole vault Saturday and posted a top-five finish with a leap of 3.05 meters. 
  • Isabelle Angelini led all on the purple and white with a javelin with a toss of 33.25-meters.
