Sullivan Repeats as NE10 Defensive Player of the Week

EASTON, Mass. (April 4, 2022) – Stonehill College senior preseason All-American Emma Sullivan has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's Defensive Player of the Week for women's lacrosse for the second-straight week by the league office today.

Sullivan, who has earned the weekly recognition for the third time this season overall, to go with an NE10 Player of the Week recognition as well, continued to fill the boxscore on both ends of the field in a 1-1 week for Stonehill against a pair of nationally-ranked opponents. She led the Skyhawks defensive efforts that allowed 14.00 goals per game, 31.0 shots per game, including 23.5 shots on goal per contest, while forcing 14.0 turnovers per contest. She totaled a team-high six caused turnovers, 21 draw controls and seven ground balls for the week, while contributing on the offensive end with a team-high matching seven goals and an assist for eight points.

Sullivan posted four caused turnovers, a career-high matching 11 draws and three ground balls in Saturday's 14-10 win at No. 21 University of New Haven, adding two goals. She registered ten draws, four ground balls and two caused turnovers in Wednesday's 18-17 setback to No. 19 Assumption University on Wednesday, with five goals and an assist for six points. Sullivan has now recorded double-digit draw controls three times this season, with five-plus draws in all nine games, while recording multiple caused turnovers in three-straight games and seven games overall, netting multiple goals in all seven games, including a career-high matching five four times, and 11-straight games dating back to the 2021 season.

Sullivan, who has collected NE10 Defensive Player of the Week accolades three times (March 1, 28 and today) to go with NE10 Player of the Week honors on March 14, was named a preseason All-American by USA Lacrosse Magazine. She has started all nine games for Stonehill this spring and is second on the team and among NE10 scoring leaders with 43 points, having scored an NE10-high 33 goals, while her ten assists are third on the team (14th NE10), ranking 23rd nationally in Division II with her 3.67 goals per game. Sullivan also leads the NE10 with 69 draw controls, 39 ground balls and 23 caused turnovers, while her .635 shot percentage (33 goals on 53 shots) ranks second in the NE10. She ranks third among NCAA Division II leaders for ground balls per game (4.33), eighth in draw controls per game (7.67) and tenth in caused turnovers per game (2.56). Sullivan's 69 draw controls rank fifth on Stonehill's all-time single-season list.

Sullivan, the 2021 NE10 Northeast Division Midfielder of the Year, has started 38 of her 40 career games played and totaled 93 goals and 25 assists for 118 points, recording her 100th career point in Stonehill's 19-2 win at American International College on March 23. She has also contributed 98 ground balls, 154 draw controls (5th all-time at Stonehill) and 48 caused turnovers in her career, converting 8-of-17 free-position shot attempts. Sullivan earned All-East Region honors from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and All-NE10 third team accolades as a junior and received Stonehill's "Breakout Sophomore" Award in 2020. Sullivan has also earned NE10 Academic Honor Roll status for her efforts in the classroom.

Stonehill (7-2, 5-1 NE10), ranked No. 16 in this week's IWLCA and USA Lacrosse Magazine Division II polls, is right back in action with two more nationally-ranked opponents this week. The Skyhawks host No. 25 The College of Saint Rose in the first ever meeting between the two programs at W.B. Mason Stadium tomorrow night at 7 p.m. The Skyhawks host No. 19 Saint Anselm College on Saturday at 2 p.m.
