Men’s Cross Country Competes in ECAC/IC4A Championships for First Time in Program History

BRONX, N.Y. (October 13, 2023) - The Stonehill men's cross country team ran in the ECAC/IC4A Championships Friday afternoon at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y. with fifth-year runner Colin Black (Hopedale, Mass./Hopedale) leading the pack for the Skyhawks in the 8K race.

This is the first time the Stonehill cross country program has ever run in the ECAC/IC4A championships as the Skyhawks tallied a 20th-place finish with 469 points out of 34 teams. Stony Brook notched the top spot for the men with two top-ten finishes.

Highlights

  • Black's 75th-place finish came with a time of 25:11.2, exactly 30 seconds faster than his last time out when he ran in the 8K at the Paul Short Run two weeks ago.
  • Black's impressive performance came with multiple leaps in the standings at each checkpoint as he was in 125th place at the 2.9K mark, and 107th at the 5.5K mark until his strong finish catapulted him to 75th out of 310 runners.
  • Fellow fifth-year runner Reilly Johnston (East Providence, R.I./Saint Raphael Academy) came in 85th place just four seconds behind his teammate, clocking in at 25:15.8.
  • Freshman Brendan Wilder (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) earned a career-best in the 8K as he finished the race in 25:33.1 for a 112th-place finish.

Other Performances

  • Senior Patrick Garrett (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) was the fourth Skyhawk to cross the finish line with a time of 24:34.7, a little over a second after Wilder, as he placed 117th.
  • Freshman Nick Davies (Auckland, New Zealand/Westlake Boys) came in 125th place after finishing less than three seconds behind Garrett with a time of 25:37.4.
  • Junior Jace Hollenbach (Topsham, Maine/ Mt. Ararat) finished with a time of 25:52.0 as the sixth Stonehill runner to cross the finish line.
