Men’s Cross Country Opens Season with 7th Place Finish at Suffolk Short Course Classic

RESULTS

BOSTON, Mass. (September 1, 2023) - The Stonehill College men's cross-country team opened their 2023 season competing in the Suffolk Short Course Classic at Franklin Park Friday afternoon. The Skyhawks finished in seventh place with Northeastern winning the event followed by WPI in second place, and the hosts, Suffolk University, placing third.

Highlights

  • Jace Hollenbach (Topsham, Maine/Mt. Ararat) paced the Skyhawks, finishing in 23rd place when he crossed the finish line at 16:37.5 in the men's 5K. This marked the first time in his career he had run the 5K event during a cross-country season.
  • Finishing one spot behind Hollenbach was Reilly Johnston (East Providence, R.I.) who finished the race in 16:37.7. As a fifth year, this was also his first collegiate 5K in a cross-country race.
  • Patrick Garrett (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) ran the race in 16:41.3 to place in the top 30, crossing the finish line in 26th place.

Other Performances

  • Aidan Byrne (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) finished the 5K in 16:57.7 to come in 37th place. Finishing 42nd in the race was Ian Bubar, crossing the finish line in 17:02.8 while teammate Nick Davies (Auckland, New Zealand/Westlake Boys) also finished in 17:02.8 one spot later.
  • Connor Hughes (Melrose, Mass./St. Johns Prep) and Dylan Brilliant also crossed the finish line back-to-back, with Hughes placing 45th (17:03.0) and Brilliant coming in 46th place (17:03.0).

Stonehill is back on the course next weekend when the team heads to Bryant University for the Shawn M. Nassaney Invitational on Saturday, September 9.
