#23 Stonehill Finishes Second At Codfish Bowl


Junior Michael Gendron finished in 28:22 at today's Codfish Bowl, helping Stonehill to a second place finish.

Freshmen earn three of top four spots for Skyhawks

BOSTON, Mass. (September 28, 2013) – The Stonehill College men's cross country team, ranked 23rd  in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II poll, and ranked second in the East Region, finished second today at the 45th Annual Codfish Bowl held at Franklin Park.

Freshman Daniel Nolan (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford), who was named Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week earlier this season for his impressive performance at the DII Challenge, was the first Skyhawk to finish today's race, placing tenth with a time of 26:47. Senior Nathaniel Webber (Atkinson, N.H./Central Catholic) followed him in 14th place, clocking in at 26:55. Nolan was not the only Stonehill freshman to impress today, however. Classmate Joseph Santo (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport), who was Stonehill's top finisher at the Shacklette Invitational on September 7th, came in 18th today with a 27:01 mark, and fellow freshman Tyler Henseler (Coventry, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) finished 20th overall, just one second behind Santo.

Stonehill collected 60 points as a team today, good for a second place finish behind only UMass Lowell's 38 points. Greater Boston TC placed third with 64 points, followed by Merrimack (90 points) and St. Thomas Aquinas (151 points).

Senior Chris Dooley (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) was the fifth Skyhawk to cross the finish line, coming in 24th with a 27:08 mark. Junior Daniel Gordon (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) followed him, finishing 29th in 27:14, and senior Justin Blaszczyk (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown) placed 34th, clocking in at 27:17. Junior Seamus McEvoy (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) was the eighth Stonehill participant to finish the eight-kilometer course, doing so in 27:26, good for 39th place.

Rounding out Stonehill's runners today were freshman Adam Rego (Rumford, R.I./La Salle Academy), who finished 46th in 27:45, freshman Elijah Curme (Weston, Mass./Weston), who placed 51st with a 28:01 time, and junior Michael Gendron (Lowell, Mass./Lowell), who came in 59th, with a 28:22 mark.

Stonehill will be off next weekend before returning to Franklin Park on October 12th to compete in the New England Championships.
