Stonehill Captures Men’s Shacklette Invitational


Senior Scott Waller finished 5th at Saturday's Shacklette Invitational with a time of 27:50.6.

All eight runners finish in top 20, including six in top 10

MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 7, 2013) – The Stonehill College men's cross country team, receiving votes in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II preseason poll, and ranked second in the East Region, captured its third straight Shacklette Invitational today at Saint Anselm College.

Freshman Joseph Santo (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport) paced Stonehill in his first collegiate meet, finishing fourth with a time of 27:50.3 on the eight kilometer course. Stonehill runners occupied the next five spots as well, starting with senior Scott Waller (Andover, Mass./Andover), who finished fifth, in 27:50.6. Freshman Adam Rego (Rumford, R.I./La Salle Academy) in 27:52, senior Nate Webber (Atkinson, N.H./Central Catholic) in 27:56.6, freshman Tyler Henseler (Coventry, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) in 27:57.2, and freshman Daniel Nolan (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) in 28:00.8, finished sixth through ninth, respectively.

Stonehill won the event with 30 points, followed by Merrimack (39 points), Assumption (80 points), Bentley (120 points), and Saint Anselm (132 points).

Rounding out Stonehill's runners were sophomore Robert Massey (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) , finishing in 12th place with a time of 28:06.2, and junior Seamus McEvoy (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow), who finished in 20th place with a time of 28:32.6.

Stonehill returns to action on Saturday, September 14th for the Division II/Division III Challenge hosted by Kutztown (Pa.) University.
