Nolan Named NE-10 Cross Country Athlete, Rookie Of The Week

Freshman recognized by conference for second time this season

EASTON, Mass. (October 1, 2013) – Stonehill College freshman Daniel Nolan (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) has been named both the Northeast-10 Conference Cross Country Men's Athlete of the Week, and Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced earlier today.

Nolan was the top finisher for Stonehill at Saturday's 45th Annual Codfish Bowl, placing tenth overall with a time of 26:47. The freshman's season-best time helped Stonehill to a second-place finish at the Codfish Bowl, behind only UMass Lowell.

Nolan was recognized as the NE-10 Cross Country Rookie of the Week two weeks ago for his performance at the DII Challenge held at Kutztown University (Pa.), in which he completed the eight kilometer course in 27:14.1. In his first collegiate meet, Nolan ran to a ninth-place finish in the Shacklette Invitational, with a 28:08 mark. He now has two top-ten finishes in three meets this season.

Nolan is a 2013 graduate of Chelmsford High School in Chelmsford, Mass., where he served as captain of the cross country and track teams as a senior. During his junior and senior years, Nolan earned Merrimack Valley Conference All-Star honors in both cross country and track, and as a senior Chelmsford won the cross country state championship. Nolan was also a national qualifier in indoor track and recipient of the Marine Corps Scholar Athlete Award his senior year.

Stonehill, ranked 23rd in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II poll, and ranked second in the East Region, will be off this weekend before returning to Franklin Park on October 12th to compete in the New England Championships.
