Skyhawks lose fourth one-goal game this season

EASTON, Mass. (October 16, 2013) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team lost a match by a single goal for the fourth time this season, falling to Merrimack College today by a 1-0 margin in Northeast-10 action at Skyhawk Field.

After 29 scoreless minutes of play, Merrimack struck first on a header goal by junior midfielder Michael Buraczynski (Littleton, Mass./Littleton), his fourth tally of the season. Sophomore Augusto Silva (Hudson, Mass./Hudson), who came into today's match leading the Warriors with nine points, launched a curving free kick from well outside the penalty area, and Buraczynski snuck past several Stonehill defenders to head the ball past Skyhawk keeper Adam Colella (Wilmington, Mass./St. John's Prep).

Stonehill's best opportunity to tie the match came with just under seven minutes remaining, when junior forward Ben Zandonella (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) came up with the ball unmarked in the penalty area, but sailed his shot well over the net.

Merrimack junior goalkeeper Jose Silva (Northborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) made one save, earning his fifth shutout of the season. His counterpart, Colella, stopped three shots in the losing effort.

Following this afternoon's contest, Stonehill (4-8-0, 3-6-0 NE-10) will return to action on Saturday at American International College in its second to last road match of the season. After AIC, the Skyhawks are off for a week before taking on Assumption College at Skyhawk Field on Saturday, October 26th, and then Stonehill wraps up its 2013 home slate three days later against Saint Michael's College. Merrimack (9-3-0, 7-2-0 NE-10) is also on the road this weekend, as the Warriors travel to the University of New Haven on Saturday before closing out their season with three consecutive home contests.
