Junior captain Adam Colella earns first shutout of season in net

EASTON, Mass. (September 14, 2013) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team opened up its 2013 Northeast-10 slate with a win, shutting out the College of Saint Rose by a score of 2-0 today at Skyhawk Field.

Sophomore back Evan Devanny (Concord, N.H./Concord) put Stonehill on the board in the 31st minute, when he headed a ball into the top left corner of the net, directly off a corner kick from midfielder RJ Aprile (Carmel, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic), for his first tally of the season.

Sophomore forward Drew Montano (Avon, Conn./Avon), who led Stonehill in scoring last year, gave the Skyhawks some insurance when he beat Saint Rose goalkeeper Colan Balkwell (Schaghticoke, N.Y./Hoosic Valley) in the 64th minute. The goal, which was assisted by midfielder Jonathan Miller (Hamden, Conn/Hamden), was also Montano's first of 2013.

The Golden Knights recorded 13 shots in the contest, including 11 on goal, but they were not able to get one past Stonehill junior captain Adam Colella (Wilmington, Mass./St. John's Prep). Colella made a season-high 11 stops while picking up his first shutout of the season.

The Skyhawks (2-2-0, 1-0-0 NE-10) are back in action on Tuesday, when they face Saint Anselm on the road in NE-10 play. Stonehill will be looking to avenge a 1-0 loss that it suffered to the Hawks in last weekend's Catholic Cup. Saint Rose (2-2-0, 0-1-0 NE-10) will also be on the road on Tuesday, as it will take on NE-10 foe New Haven.
