The Details

  • Stonehill's offense wasted no time scoring nearly six minutes into the contest (14:34) when Tripp found Ireland skating down ice and after his shot was turned away, Benedict could not control the free puck and Rapalje was in the right place to tap the puck home for the quick 1-0 advantage.
  • However, responded nearly two minutes later at 12:31 Assumption evened things at one and as the first came to a close, the Greyhounds took the lead (2-1) after they capitalized on a powerplay goal courtesy of D'Ambrosio.
  • Despite the lead, the Skyhawks answered in the second after Tripp found Rapalje near the left face-off circle where he rifled a slapshot past Benedict's stick side and from there, the squad rattled off six unanswered goals that included the eventual game-winner from Ireland with less than two minutes in the second frame (01:26). After the Skyhawks won a face-off on their side of the ice, Ireland took the loose puck and shot up past everyone on Assumption and put home his wrister for the 3-2 going into the final period.
  • Rapalje led off the third with his third goal on the evening when Ireland swung the loose puck from Schwenninger over to Rapalje on Benedict's glove side for the easy goal and made it 4-2. For Rapalje, it is his second hat trick of the year with his last one coming in a 5-2 win over Post University on November 19.
  • From there, FitzPatrick, Heath, Talarico, and Schwenninger netted goals at 06:33, 12:49, 15:10, and 16:15 respectively. Ireland assisted on four goals on the day which marked a new career-high for the freshman forward.
  • Day notched a season-high 35 saves and it is his fifth game with 30-plus saves. His saves tonight also marked a new career-best against the Greyhounds which topped his previous high of 31 in a 5-4 win last season (Nov. 5).
