Cumpstone Earns CoSIDA Academic All-District™ Honors

EASTON, Mass. (February 11, 2016) – Stonehill College senior forward Pierce Cumpstone (Bainbridge Township, Ohio/Kenston) has earned a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District™ first team as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) members throughout the region in the Northeast-10 Conference, East Coast Conference and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. Cumpstone is now eligible for Academic All-America® honors, selected by CoSIDA's Academic All-America® committee, to be announced on Wednesday, March 2.

Cumpstone, who collected Spalding Northeast-10 Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career on Monday, is an Academic All-District™ selection for the first time as well. He has earned a 3.53 cumulative grade point average as an environmental studies major at Stonehill. He is just the second men's basketball player from Stonehill to earn Academic All-District™ honors after A.J. Rudowitz was a second team selection in 2009 and a first team pick in 2010. Cumpstone has earned a spot on the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll for having a semester GPA of 3.00 or higher all seven semesters at the College and been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll five semesters for having a semester GPA of 3.20 or higher.

 Cumpstone has started 14 of the 22 games he has played for Stonehill this season, ranking third on the team with 13.3 points per game, shooting 53.2-percent from the field (10th NE-10), including 38.1% (32-of-84) from three-point distance, converting 71.1% (27-38) of his free-throws. He leads the team with 9.4 rebounds (5th) and 1.7 blocked shots (5th) per game, while adding 1.3 assists and 1.1 steals in 30.9 minutes per contest. He shares the team lead with eight double-doubles this season, including each of the last three games, giving him 12 over his career.

Cumpstone has started 24 of the 90 games he has played over his Stonehill career, having totaled 824 points and 501 rebounds with 75 assists, 64 steals and 103 blocked shots. He is a 45.2-percent field goal shooter over his career, including 31.7% (97-for-306) from three-point distance, and 74.4% (67-90) free-throw shooter, averaging 9.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.1 blocked shots per game over his career. Cumpstone scored a career-high 27 points, to go with 15 rebounds, on 11-of-15 shooting, including 5-for-7 from three-point distance, in last Wednesday's 92-71 victory over rival Bentley University. He pulled down a career-best 16 rebounds with 23 points in a 71-65 win over Le Moyne College on January 6.

Stonehill (17-6, 12-5 NE-10), receiving votes in this week's D2SIDA Top 25 poll and ranked No. 3 in the D2SIDA East Regional poll, returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Assumption College for a Northeast-10 matchup at Merkert Gymnasium at 3:30 p.m.
