Logan leads Skyhawks with 20 points, including 1,000th of his career
EASTON, Mass. (January 12, 2016) – Stonehill College, ranked fifth in this week's D2SIDA East Regional poll, buried 15 three-pointers, including ten in the first half, on its way to a commanding 78-44 victory over the University of New Haven in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball action on Paula Sullivan Court at Merkert Gymnasium tonight.
Junior forward Ryan Logan (Fredericktown, Ohio/Fredericktown) led Stonehill with a game-high matching 20 points, becoming the 39th player in program history to surpass the 1,000-point mark for his career, as he connected on 9-of-17 shots from the field, to go with five rebounds, five assists and a steal. Logan surpassed the 1,000-point plateau on a layup with 14:26 remaining in the game, achieving the milestone in his 71st career game with the Skyhawks. He finished the night with 1,005 points, an average of 14.2 points per game over his career.
Senior Carter Smith (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) added 13 points, six assists and two rebounds, connecting on 3-of-7 three-pointers. The trio of three-pointers give him 200 for his career, becoming just the fourth player in program history to connect on 200-plus career threes. Senior Pierce Cumpstone (Bainbridge Township, Ohio/Kenston) pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds for the Skyhawks with eight points, while classmate Adam Bramanti (Middleton, Massachusetts/Masconomet Regional) chipped in nine points on 3-of-5 three-pointers.
Senior Samir McDaniels (Roxbury, Massachusetts/New Mission) led New Haven with 20 points on 9-of-10 shooting, with three boards. Freshman Michael Bourke (South Orange, New Jersey/The Hun School) added ten points and three boards, while classmate Najee Larcher (Brooklyn, New York/Xaverian) and senior Joshua Guddemi (Nottingham, England) each chipped in with six rebounds.

Stonehill shot 51.7-percent from the field (30-for-58), including 57.1-percent (16-28) in the first half to aid in building a 27-point halftime lead (44-17), connecting on 15-of-28 (53.6%) of its three-pointers, including 10-for-16 (62.5%) over the opening 20 minutes. The Skyhawks posted a 17-2 advantage in second chance points with just a 34-26 rebounding edge, finishing with only eight turnovers and a 21-9 scoring edge in bench points. New Haven was limited to 38.3% shooting (18-47), including 5-for-22 (22.7%) from beyond the arc, shooting just 31.8% (7-22) in the first half.
Stonehill and New Haven held a 5-5 deadlock through the first six minutes of the game before the Skyhawks broke through with eight straight points to open a 13-5 advantage eight minutes into the game after back to back three-pointers by Cumpstone and Bramanti. Bourke answered back with a triple of his own, and Guddemi drilled a three to pull New Haven back within eight (21-13) with 8:30 left in the first half.

Stonehill followed that with 13 straight points, bookended by a pair of Bramanti triples and keyed by seven straight points from Logan, to open a 21 point lead (34-13) with 5:19 remaining. The Skyhawks closed the half out with the final seven points of the frame to carry a commanding 27 point lead (44-17) into halftime.
New Haven scored the first five points of the second half, but Stonehill's lead would never dip below 20 the rest of the way. The Skyhawks regained a 26 point lead (50-24) after a layup from sophomore Isaiah Bess (LaGrange, Maine/Hampden Academy) four minutes into the half. Stonehill stretched its lead to 33 (61-28) after a Logan layup with 6:31 to play on its way to a game-high 41 point bulge (78-37) with a minute left.
Stonehill (12-4, 7-3 NE-10) is right back in action here at Merkert Gym on Saturday when it hosts Pace University for its Alumni Game at 3:30 p.m. New Haven (4-11, 1-8 NE-10) visits Assumption College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
