DEDHAM, Mass. (October 15, 2023) – Sophomore forward Makayla Strickulis scored her first two goals of the season, including the gamewinner 6:43 into the fourth quarter, to lift Stonehill College to a 3-2 victory over Colgate University in a non-conference field hockey matchup at Dedham Field this afternoon.

Strickulis, who netted four goals during her freshman season in 2022, scored her first two goals of the 2023 season, both to give Stonehill the lead, including her second career gamewinning goal with 8:17 to play after Colgate had equalized with a penalty stroke goal by junior Charlotte Hamilton five minutes earlier.

  • Strickulis paced Stonehill's second-highest goal output of the season with the second multi-goal game of her collegiate career.
  • Senior All-American Raegan Hickey also scored a goal for Stonehill in the win.
  • Junior Shannon Conte registered three saves to preserve the win in goal for Stonehill.
  • Hamilton and fellow junior Sarah Killcommons scored goals for Colgate.
  • Freshman Hayley Campbell finished with three saves in goal for the Raiders.

How It Happened

    Colgate grabbed the lead 8:39 into the game as Killcommons scored her second goal of the year on a rebound after the Raiders initial shot was blocked in front of goal.
  • Hickey equalized for Stonehill just three minutes later, on a break, depositing her NEC-leading eighth goal of the year with 3:10 left in the first quarter.
  • Strickulis pushed Stonehill into the lead with 5:40 left in the first half with her first goal of the year when she redirected a cross from the right side by senior Claudia Crowe into the cage.
  • After a scoreless third quarter, Colgate leveled 1:56 into the fourth when it was awarded a penalty stroke after a foul in front of goal. Hamilton converted the stroke for her second goal of the season.
  • Strickulis struck for her second of the day less than five minutes later converting a rebound off freshman Julieta D'Antonio's initial shot with 8:17 to play.

Noteworthy

  • Stonehill has won two-straight games for the first time at the NCAA Division I level and first time since winning three in a row to end the regular season in 2021. The Skyhawks have also won three of their last four games.
  • Stonehill's four wins surpasses its three during the Skyhawks inaugural NCAA Division I season last fall.
  • Strickulis is the seventh different goal scorer for Stonehill this season, having posted her second career multi-goal game after scoring twice in a 4-3 victory at Lindenwood (Mo.) University for the Skyhawks first NCAA Division I win on September 11, 2022.
  • Crowe shares the NEC lead with her team-best seventh assist today.
  • Conte notched her seventh career win in the Stonehill cage with the victory today.
  • This afternoon marked the second meeting all-time between these two programs with Stonehill evening the series at a win apiece after Colgate notched a 2-1 win in upstate New York last season.
