Football Finishes Strong with Dominant Win at Southern Conn. State, 42-6

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (November 13, 2021) - Stonehill College scored three touchdowns in the opening nine minutes of play and didn't look back, capping its season with a commanding 42-6 triumph over Southern Connecticut State University in Northeast-10 Conference football action at Jess Dow Field this afternoon.

The Details

  • Stonehill finishes its season with three-straight wins to reach the eight win mark for the first time since its NE10 regular season championship campaign in 2013 (8-3), while posting its first 8-2 season since 1996. The Skyhawks finish 6-2 in NE10 play for the first time since posting an 8-1 mark in 2013.
  • Fifth-year quarterback Anton Stoneking capped his Stonehill career in style with a career-high four touchdown passes, completing 14-of-18 passes for 202 yards on the day. The four touchdown passes give him a career-best 16 for the season and 31 for his career, totals that rank ninth and sixth on Stonehill's single-season and career lists, respectively.

    Stoneking tossed two touchdown passes to a pair of receivers, with freshman Chris Domercant finishing with four receptions for 91 yards and two scores, while both of sophomore Cameron Alves' receptions reaching the end zone for a total of 55 yards. Domercant's nine touchdown catches for the season finish fourth on Stonehill's single-season list and are a freshman record at the College.
  • Senior All-American Justin Felder capped his season with 32 carries for 148 yards and two touchdowns, becoming the first running back in program history to surpass 1,000-yards in multiple seasons. He finished the season with 1,127 yards, good for third in program history, while his 17 rushing touchdowns break his own school record of 16 set in 2019. Felder also surpassed the 3,000-yard rushing plateau for his career, setting a new program record with 3,069 yards on 546 carries (2nd) and a record 35 touchdowns, finishing with a program-record 38 total touchdowns.
  • Fifth-year Nate Bresson capped his career with a dominant effort on the Stonehill defensive line, posting five tackles (three solo), including 2.5 for a loss of 11 yards, with 2.0 sacks for a loss of ten, a pass breakup and blocked kick. He finishes the season with just the sixth double-figure sack effort in program history, totaling 10.0 sacks for the season – good for sixth on Stonehill's single-season list – and finishing with 20.5 for his career to rank second in program history, with his 45.0 career tackles for loss ranking third in program history.
  • Senior Garrett McCarthy added seven tackles (one solo), while fifth-year Xavier Jones and senior Kevin Porch each recorded interceptions.
  • Stonehill scored on its first three possessions, opening a 21-0 lead in the first nine minutes of the game. Stoneking connected with Domercant for a four-yard touchdown toss 2:20 into the contest, just two plays after a 30-yard punt return from freshman Bryson Carter set the Skyhawks up with excellent field position at the Southern Connecticut 26.
  • Felder scored his first touchdown of the day four minutes later when he capped an eight play, 54-yard Stonehill drive with a four-yard touchdown scamper.
  • Stoneking added his second touchdown pass with six minutes to play in the opening quarter, connecting with Alves for a 45-yard pass two plays after Bresson blocked an Owls punt attempt that gave the Skyhawks the ball inside Southern territory.

    Stonehill carried a 28-0 lead into halftime with Stoneking connecting with Alves again with 3:32 to play in the second quarter for a ten-yard touchdown pass.
  • Stoneking and Domercant connected for a 75-yard touchdown pass on the opening play of the second half to run the Stonehill lead to 35-0.
  • Southern Connecticut got on the scoreboard with 8:10 remaining in the third as junior Ralph Gonzalez and freshman Diante Wilson combined for a four-yard touchdown pass, before Porch blocked the extra point attempt.
  • Stonehill capped the scoring on the afternoon with Felder's second touchdown of the day from a yard out to cap a 12-play, 75-yard drive with 1:34 to play in the third.
