Football Tops Saint Anselm to Keep “Ol’ Bronze Hawk” for 17th-straight Year, 31-22

EASTON, Mass. (October 16, 2021) - Stonehill College retains the "Ol' Bronze Hawk" trophy for another year after posting its 17th-straight series win over Saint Anselm College with a 31-22 victory in Northeast-10 Conference football action on Homecoming Weekend on Timothy J. Coughlin, '80 Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium this afternoon.

The Details

  • Stonehill erased a five-point (15-10) halftime deficit with 21-straight points in the third quarter to seal its third straight win.
  • Sophomore Jermaine Corbett led Stonehill with a career-high 31 carries for a career-best 254 yards and the first two touchdowns of his collegiate career.
  • Freshman Chris Domercant contributed four receptions for 81 yards and a score.
  • Fifth-year Anton Stoneking completed 14-of-26 passes for 219 yards and two scores.
  • Sophomore Drew Willoughby completed 23-of-44 pass attempts for 329 yards and two touchdowns for Saint Anselm.
  • Freshman Carson Goda caught five of those passes for 116 yards and a score.

    Saint Anselm carried a five-point lead (15-10) into halftime after freshman Patrick Carroll kicked his second of two first half field goal as time expired from 27 yards out. He had opened the scoring in the contest with a 34-yard kick on the Hawks second possession of the day.
  • Corbett's second touchdown of the afternoon, a 19-yard carry, closed out a nine play, 79-yard Stonehill drive on its second possession of the third quarter to grab the lead (17-15).
  • Stonehill scored on three straight possessions, including the Corbett third quarter, touchdown to take control of the game.
  • Stoneking connected with Domercant for his sixth touchdown reception of the season with 4:32 left in the third.
  • Stoneking followed that by hitting junior tight end Cam Boes on ten-yard touchdown pass, that was set up by an interception by sophomore linebacker Gardner Cousins, with 2:15 to play in the half and extend the lead to 31-15.
  • Saint Anselm put an end to the Stonehill run on its first play from scrimmage after the Boes touchdown when Willoughby and Goda connected for a 75-yard touchdown with 2:04 to go in the third quarter clock that would wrap up the scoring on the afternoon.
  • The Stonehill defense would hold Saint Anselm without a first down in the fourth quarter to eliminate any hopes of a late rally.
