Corbett Named NE10 Offensive Player & Rookie of the Week

Long Branch, New Jersey, sophomore running back shines in first career start to lead Skyhawks past Saint Anselm in 16th "Battle for the Ol' Bronze Hawk"

NE10 Football Weekly Report

EASTON, Mass. (October 19, 2021) – Stonehill College sophomore running back Jermaine Corbett has earned a pair of weekly honors from the Northeast-10 Conference with his selection as the Conference's Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week by the league office.

Corbett made his first career start and led the Stonehill offense in Saturday's 31-22 victory over Saint Anselm to retain the "Ol' Bronze Hawk" Trophy for the 17th-straight year. He carried the ball a career-high 31 times for a career-best 254 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 8.2 yards per carry to go with one reception for 11 yards. His yardage total is the third-highest single-game total in program history and would have surpassed the Skyhawks record before senior All-America teammate Justin Felder became the first running back in NE10 history to post back-to-back 300-yard games in 2019. Corbett is also now one of three running backs on the Stonehill roster to rush for over 200-yards, with fifth-year Brian Kearns, Jr. accomplishing the feat twice over his career, along with Felder.

Corbett's four-yard touchdown run in the first quarter on Saturday was the first of his collegiate career and responded to Saint Anselm's opening field goal to take a 7-3 lead. His 19-yard touchdown scamper put the Skyhawks in front for good and sparked a 21-point third quarter as the Skyhawks took control after trailing at the half (15-10).

Corbett, who had just 16 touches for 55-yards in two previous appearances for Stonehill prior to Saturday, moved into tenth among NE10 rushing leaders with his 309 yards on 47 carries this season, averaging 6.6 yards per attempt.

Stonehill (5-1, 3-1 NE10), once again listed among teams receiving votes in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II poll, is right back in action at W.B. Mason Stadium on Saturday when it hosts the University of New Haven, also receiving votes, for a key NE10 clash at 1 p.m.
