Binghamton Advances Past Men's Tennis, 4-0

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. (April 12, 2024) – Top-seeded Binghamton University posted a 4-0 victory over eighth-seeded Stonehill College Friday night in the 2024 Northeast Conference Championship quarterfinal round at the Mercer County Tennis Center.

How It Happened

  • The Skyhawks loss comes after earning their program's first NEC tournament victory in the play-in round Friday morning against ninth-seeded Wagner College, 4-3. 
  • Binghamton (14-9, 7-1 NEC) advances to Saturday's semifinal round, where it will face fifth-seeded Le Moyne College.
  • Sophomore William Morais Binnie, along with Bearcats double-winner on the day, sophomore James McPherson, took the first flight of doubles competition over sophomore classmates Mark Kröll and Donovan Rodrigues, 6-3.
  • Freshman Filipe Costa and sophomore Andrew Fang combined to clinch the doubles point for Binghamton with a 6-2 victory over sophomore Mateo Mallen and senior Louis Coppi at the No. 3 slot.  
  • Following the doubles sweep by the Bearcats, sophomore Ronin Lotlikar and junior Kyle Weekes would continue Binghamton's momentum into singles competition. 
  • Lotlikar defeated Mallen, 6-3, 6-1, at the No. 2 singles position, while Weekes took down Kröll, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 4 position. 
  • McPherson clinched his double-win and the overall 4-0 match victory over the Skyhawks at the No. 5 singles slot, defeating Rodrigues in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.

Stonehill (6-14, 1-5 NEC) returns to action on Sunday for a non-conference match at 2 p.m. at the J.W. Abrahamson Tennis Courts in Hamilton, New York, against Colgate University.
