Men's Tennis Defeats Wheaton, 8-1

Coppi teamed up with Rodrigues for their first doubles win of the season.

NORTON, Mass. (October 4, 2023) – The Stonehill College men's tennis team returned to the win column after earning an 8-1 victory against non-conference opponent Wheaton College on Wednesday.

Highlights

  • Sophomore duo of Mateo Mallen and Donovan Rodrigues, as well as first-year pairing Jacob Borch-Nielsen and Alexis Chastang led the Skyhawks as double-winners on the day against Wheaton.
  • Mallen and Chastang combined for an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles against Daniel Bor and Calvin Van Dyke.
  • Rodrigues and senior Louis Coppi teamed up for their first doubles win of the season at the No. 3 slot against Eli Hanlon and Jack Thain.
  • Borch-Nielsen remains undefeated at 4-0 in singles play after his victory at No. 1 singles against first-year student Jaime Galligo.
  • Van Dyke earned Wheaton's point with a three-set victory over sophomore Charles Helm at No. 6 singles.

  • The Skyhawks opened the match strong sweeping the Lyons in doubles competition. Sophomore Mark Kröll and Borch-Nielsen rounded out the sweep at No. 1 doubles against Galligo and Jake Murray, 8-7 (7-3).
  • Borch-Nielsen kept the momentum rolling into singles competition, battling his opponent to a 6-4, 6-1 victory at the No. 1 singles slot to extend the Skyhawks lead in the match to 4-0.
  • Sophomore Mathias Langaard ensured Stonehill the match victory at No. 5 singles, defeating Hanlon in straight sets, 7-6 (7-1), 6-3, extending the Skyhawks lead to 5-0 to clinch the match.
  • Mallen and Rodrigues rounded out their double wins on the day at the No. 2 and No. 4 singles positions, taking down their opponents in three-sets each.
  • Chastang capped off the Skyhawks dominance at No. 3 singles, taking down Murray in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5.
