Men's Tennis Drops Conference Match Up to Saint Francis

EASTON, Mass. (March 16, 2024) – The Stonehill College men's tennis team fell to Northeast Conference (NEC) opponent Saint Francis University, 6-1, at home Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Skyhawks drop to 4-9 overall and 1-3 in conference play, while the Red Flash improve to 6-5 overall and 2-0 against conference opponents.

Highlights

  • Freshman Jacob Borch-Nielsen picked up the lone victory for the Skyhawks at No. 1 singles.
  • Freshman Tyler Nguyen and redshirt sophomore Mathias Tremblay led four double-winners for Saint Francis in the victory.
  • Freshman Alan Gonzalez and junior Kevin Kruzel also earned singles and doubles wins for the Red Flash.
  • Sophomore Gregory Troyan and senior Marc Fuste capped off the sweep of doubles competition for the Red Flash.

How It Happened

  • Nguyen and Tremblay combined for a, 6-4, victory at No. 1 doubles against Borch Nielsen and junior Jacob Wilhem Krefting.
  • Borch-Nielsen earned the lone point for the Skyhawks at No. 1 singles after defeating Fuste, 7-5, 3-6, 12-10.
  • Nguyen capped off his doubles win against sophomore Mateo Mallen at No. 2 singles with a 7-6, 6-0 decision.
  • Tremblay defeated freshman Armaan Mullick, 7-6, 6-0, at No. 4 singles.
  • The doubles pairing of Gonzalez and Kruzel took down Mallen and senior Louis Coppi at No. 3 doubles before rounding out their double win on the day at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
  • Sophomore Patrick Reese and Coppi battled to a three-set match at the No. 5 singles slot. However, Reese would come out on top earning the match victory, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
