Men's Tennis Opens Season at 2-0 with Sweep Over Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I. (September 26, 2023) – The Stonehill College men's tennis team opens the season with a record of 2-0 for the third consecutive season after its 9-0 sweep against Roger Williams Tuesday afternoon.

How it Happened

  • The Skyhawks opened the match strong at No. 1 doubles as the team of Borch-Nielsen and Kröll defeated the Hawks duo of Will Hurlburt and Ryan Carroll.
  • Mallen and Chastang kept the momentum rolling at No. 2 doubles, not letting up a point before de Benaze and Mullick paired up at No. 3 doubles for an 8-1 win, extending the gap to 3-0 heading into singles play.
  • Borch-Nielsen carried Stonehill's winning ways into the singles matches, making quick work of Hurlbert at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-2, and securing his second double-win of the season.
  • Kröll ensured the Skyhawks of victory at No. 2 singles, taking down Carroll in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, extending the Stonehill lead to 5-0 to clinch the match.
  • Chastang and de Benaze continued the Skyhawks dominance at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, besting Baldyga 6-4, 6-2, and Collins 6-4, 6-1, respectively.
  • Mullick and Rodriguez completed the sweep for Stonehill, defeating their opponents at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-0, and 6-0, 6-0, respectively.
