Men's Tennis Blanked at Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (April 7, 2024) – The Stonehill College men's tennis team was swept by non-conference opponent Fairfield University, 7-0, Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Skyhawks fall to 5-12 overall, while the Stags improve to 10-8 on the year.

Highlights

  • Highlighting the Skyhawks competitors on the day was the doubles pairing of freshman Jacob Borch-Nielsen and junior Jacob Wilhelm Krefting.
  • Despite falling to senior Keean Shah and graduate student Thomas Smart at the No. 1 doubles position, the duo battled their opponents to a narrow 6-4 decision.
  • Shah and Smart led a trio of double winners on the day for Fairfield, as graduate student Nick Condos added his own singles and doubles triumph.
  • Also picking up singles victories for the Stags were sophomore Kostas Kollias, freshman Luca Benaibbouche, and freshman Calum Jessett. 

How It Happened

  • Sophomore Alex Aguiar and freshman Domagoj Stabek took the opening match of doubles play against sophomore Mateo Mallen and senior Louis Coppi, 6-1, at No 3. Doubles.
  • Condos, along with junior Will O'Brien secured the doubles point for the Stags after defeating sophomore classmates Mark Kröll and Donovan Rodrigues, 6-1.
  • Shah and Smart capped off the sweep of doubles competition after taking down Borch-Nielsen and Wilhelm Krefting 6-4 at the No. 1 doubles slot.
  • Following the sweep of doubles play, the Stags continued their dominance in singles play.
  • Smart, Condos, and Shah each secured their individual double wins on the day after earning victories at the one through three singles positions.
  • Kollias, Benaibbouche, and Jessett capped off the sweep for Fairfield after not dropping a set to freshman Armaan Mullick, Coppi, and Kroll.
