Mehra and Loutfy lead three double-winners for Seahawks in NEC win

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (March 26, 2023) – Wagner College battled its way to a hard-fought 6-1 decision over Stonehill College in a Northeast Conference men's tennis match at the CSI Tennis Courts this afternoon. 

Highlights

  • Seniors Tejasvi Mehra and Omar Loutfy , along with junior Rodrigo Perez were all double-winners for Wagner in the NEC win.
  • The match featured three tiebreakers, three matches decided in a third set and six sets decided by just a break.
  • Mehra and Loutfy led a sweep of the three doubles matches to earn the first point for Wagner with their 6-2 victory at No. 1.
  • Mehra followed that up with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles against Stonehill freshman Mark Kröll, while Loutfy rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 triumph at No. 3 singles against senior Christian Duffy.
  • Perez followed up his 6-4 decision at No. 2 doubles along with junior Odeda Arazza with a 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (14-12) triumph at No. 1 singles against Stonehill freshman Mateo Mallen.
  • Freshman Mathias Langaard earned Stonehill's point, bouncing back from a set down for a 3-6, 6-1, 7-5 victory at No. 4 singles against Wagner senior Jai Sai Venkatramana.
  • Postgrad Philip Lynch and freshman Sebastian Dobson both won points for Wagner at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.

Stonehill (7-12, 0-4 NEC) is back in action on Thursday, when it hosts Bentley University for a non-conference match at Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 3:30 p.m. Please note the date change for this match from Wednesday due to the forecast for inclement weather. Wagner (4-11, 3-1 NEC) visits Fairleigh Dickinson on Thursday for an NEC match at 1 p.m.
