BC Defeats Men's Tennis in Spring Opener, 7-0

Jayasundera a double-winner to lead Eagles to victory

WALPOLE, Mass. (January 27, 2023) – Boston College posted a 7-0 victory over Stonehill College in a non-conference match to open the spring season at Wimbledon 109 Tennis Club tonight.

Highlights

  • Sophomore Anesh Jayasundera was the lone double-winner in the match, posting BC wins at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
  • Senior Max Motlagh posted a win at No. 1 singles for the Eagles, while classmate Juan Jose Bianchi and sophomore Jake Vassel combined for a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles as the Eagle swept the three doubles matches in earning the first point.
  • Stonehill sophomore Guillaume Duhil de Bènazè fought through his match at No. 1 doubles, with freshman Mateo Mallen, falling by only a break, 6-4.
  • De Bènazè played one of the tighter matches of the night, ultimately falling in two sets to BC sophomore Connor McDonald, dropping the first set by just a break (6-4), before McDonald battled his way to 6-3 win in the second set.

Stonehill (6-1, 0-0 NEC) returns to the courts next Saturday, February 4, when it hosts Boston University at The Weymouth Club for a non-conference dual match at 5 p.m. Boston College (2-0, 0-0 ACC) hosts Siena College next Saturday at Wimbledon 109 at 3:30 p.m.
