Eight different Skyhawks part of wins over the nine matches

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (March 9, 2023) – Stonehill College got contributions from up and down its ladder as eight different players figured into winning decisions in a 5-2 victory over John Carroll University in a non-conference dual match at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) National Center this afternoon. 

Highlights

  • Eight different players figured in match wins for Stonehill as the Skyhawks won without a double-winner.
  • Stonehill started by winning two of the three doubles matches to clinch the first point of the match. Sophomore Guillaume Duhil de Bénazé and freshman Mateo Mallen won by a break at No. 1 doubles, while seniors Christian Duffy and Ben Simmons took a 6-3 win at No. 2.
  • Stonehill clinched the match by following up the doubles point with wins in four of the six singles matches. Freshman Mark Kröll led the way with his 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles against John Carroll junior Grant Sarnowski.
  • Freshman Mathias Langaard earned the deciding point for the Skyhawks with his 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles against JCU freshman Phillip Gorun.
  • Senior Luke Nickerson and sophomore Louis Coppi rounded out the singles winners for Stonehill at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively.
  • Junior Logan Langovsky posted a win at No. 1 singles for John Carroll, while freshman Anthony Markello added a point at No. 3 singles.

Stonehill (7-8, 0-2 NEC) wraps up its spring break trip tomorrow morning when it faces Loyola University of Maryland for a non-conference match at the USTA National Center at 8 a.m. John Carroll (0-9, 0-0 OAC) is off until Saturday, March 18, when it opens Ohio Athletic Conference play against University of Mount Union at 1 p.m.
