Nickerson drops just a single game over singles and doubles play to lead Skyhawks double-winners

EASTON, Mass. (September 14, 2022) – Stonehill College opened play on the newly refurbished Charles Watt Tennis Courts on a winning note, posting a 6-1 victory over Emerson College in a non-conference men's tennis match this afternoon.

This afternoon's match marked the first on the newly refurbished Charles Watt Tennis Courts, which underwent a complete breakdown and resurfacing over the summer.

How it Happened

  • Stonehill swept the three doubles matches to earn its first point of the match, with Mallen and Nickerson, along with Simmons and Helm each winning at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles without dropping a single game, respectively.
  • Stonehill followed by winning five of the six singles matches to close out the win.
  • Nickerson added a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 4 singles against Emerson freshman Noah Mesaros to round out his double-winning performance.
  • Mallen followed up his 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles with Nickerson by rolling to a 6-0, 6-2 decision at No. 1 singles against freshman Jeff Yu.
  • Kröll followed a 6-2 decision at No. 1 doubles with Duffy by posting a 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 3 singles against sophomore Pete Sevikul.
  • Graves didn't drop a game in his straight sets victory at No. 5 singles against sophomore Daniel Kennedy.
  • Watanabe won the final match of the day left on the courts, edging Duffy by a break in each set for a 7-5, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles.

Stonehill (1-0, 0-0 NEC) is back in action on Saturday, when it visits Nichols College for a non-conference dual match at noon. The Skyhawks return to Watt Courts on Thursday, September 22, to host Clark University at 3:30 p.m. Emerson (0-2, 0-0 NEWMAC) visits Eastern Nazarene University on Friday at 3 p.m.
