Quinnipiac Defeats Men's Tennis, 7-0

Arakaki and Sood lead four double-winners for Bobcats

RIVERSIDE, R.I. (March 15, 2023) – Quinnipiac University didn't drop a set in posting a 7-0 victory over Stonehill College in a non-conference men's tennis matchup at Centre Court Tennis Club this afternoon.

Highlights

  • Juniors Ayato Arakaki and Shaurya Sood led four double-winners for Quinnipiac with wins at the top of the doubles and singles lineups.
  • Senior Kemal Karagozoglu and junior Donovan Brown rounded out the Bobcats with both singles and doubles wins in the match.
  • Postgrad Andreas Whalen-Merediz and freshman Csanad Nyaradi each contributed singles wins for Quinnipiac.
  • Arakaki, who teamed up with Karagozoglu for a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles to lead a Bobcats sweep of the three doubles matches to earn that point, battled past Stonehill freshman Mateo Mallen by just a break in both sets for a win at No. 1 singles.
  • Whalen-Merediz and Sood both took the opening sets of their matches at No. 2 and No. 3 singles against freshman Mark Kröll and senior Christian Duffy, respectively, before taking their second sets 6-3 to close out close straight sets wins.

Stonehill (7-10, 0-2 NEC) returns to action on Saturday, when it faces St. Francis College of Brooklyn for a Northeast Conference match hosted by the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York, at 10 a.m. The Skyhawks next home match is scheduled for Wednesday March 29, when it hosts Bentley University for a non-conference match. Quinnipiac (4-7, 1-0 MAAC) hosts Franklin Pierce University on Saturday at 6 p.m.
