EASTON, Mass. (June 8, 2010) – Stonehill College senior men's tennis standout Michael Mashkevich (Goleta, Calif./Framingham (Mass.)) has earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America honors as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America committee.

Mashkevich, who becomes just the seventh Academic All-American from Stonehill College, was voted to the at large third team for his accomplishments on the tennis courts and in the classroom. CoSIDA's at large Academic All-America program includes student-athletes that compete in the sports of tennis, golf, gymnastics, hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, volleyball and wrestling. Mashkevich is the College's first Academic All-American since lacrosse standout Erin Acone earned her second of two-straight selections in 2006 and he is just the third male student-athlete to collect Academic All-America honors, the first since former football standout Kevin Broderick was selected in 1992 and the first ever for the men's tennis program.

"The demands on being a student-athlete are very time consuming," said head coach Peter Miller, who recently completed his 30th season at the helm of his alma mater. "Michael never sacrificed his academics while successfully competing in athletics at the highest level. This award symbolizes the priorities Stonehill puts on developing the whole person and that athletics is an important part of the education experience. It is a credit to the school that 'Mash' was able to earn such a selective award."

Mashkevich, an Academic All-America and All-District first team honoree for the first time this spring, graduated recently with a 3.71 cumulative grade point average at the College while majoring in finance. He is a two-time NE-10 All-Academic team selection and has also earned NE-10 Commissioner's honor roll and Athletic Director's honor roll honors every semester at the College. Mashkevich was also recognized by the College as an Edward E. Martin Scholar-Athlete Award recipient and also earned NE-10 All-Championship team honors for the second-straight season. He was an NE-10 Scholar-Athlete of the Year nominee as well.

Mashkevich is a three-time All-Northeast-10 Conference singles performer at Stonehill, earning first team honors at No. 2 singles as a junior and senior. He posted an overall record of 17-2, including a perfect 11-0 mark in NE-10 play, this season. Mashkevich won his last 19 matches against NE-10 opposition and his last 12-matches overall. He saw time at both first and second singles for Stonehill this past season, recording a 4-0 mark at first singles to go with a 13-2 clip at second singles.

Mashkevich is also a three-time All-Northeast-10 doubles selection, earning top-flight second team honors with junior Tim Fayed (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) this season, collecting first team honors twice over his career as well. Mashkevich and Fayed, the seventh-ranked doubles team in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region, posted a 13-5 overall doubles record, including a 9-1 clip in NE-10 play.

Mashkevich owns a 53-21 career singles record and combined to post a 59-22 doubles mark over his career. He has posted a career doubles mark of 59-23, including a 43-13 record at No. 1 doubles for Stonehill over the last three seasons with Fayed, including a 22-3 mark in NE-10 play.

Stonehill (13-8, 9-2 NE-10) made their fifth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance this spring and sixth overall after finishing third in the NE-10 standings, advancing to the NE-10 tournament semifinals after winning both the regular season and tournament titles in 2008-09.
