Football Rolls Past Franklin Pierce on Senior Day, 34-7

EASTON, Mass. (November 6, 2021) - Senior All-American running back Justin Felder totaled 233 all-purpose yards and rushed for three touchdowns to power Stonehill College to a 34-7 Senior Day victory over Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference football action on Timothy J. Coughlin, '80 Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium this afternoon.

The Details

  • Felder carried the ball 21 times for 193 yards on the ground with three touchdowns, including a pair in the first half as Stonehill jumped out to a 24-0 halftime lead and didn't look back. He also caught a team-high five passes for another 40 yards.
  • Felder's three touchdowns this afternoon give him 36 total touchdowns for his career, breaking the Stonehill record of 34 by Eddie Vachon, '11 with his second score of the day. Felder is just the fourth in Stonehill history to surpass 200 career points scored, finishing the day with 216 points – good for second all-time, behind just former teammate Matt Haite, '20 with a school-record 244 points.

    Sophomore Sam Murphy and senior Garrett McCarthy both posted double-digit tackle totals to lead a Stonehill defense that limited Franklin Pierce to 235 total yards. Murphy posted a career-high 14 tackles (three solo), including 1.0 for a loss of three yards, with a half sack for a loss of two. McCarthy added a career-best 11 tackles (four solo), including 1.5 sacks for a loss of five yards.
  • Felder opened the scoring on the afternoon with a 77-yard touchdown run on Stonehill's second offensive play from scrimmage after Franklin Pierce's opening drive stalled at the Skyhawks 47-yard line after eight plays.
  • Junior Perry Shelbred followed with his first of two field goals on the afternoon with a 38-yard kick after Stonehill's second drive of the day stalled at the Franklin Pierce 21 after ten plays and 53-yards.
  • Felder's program-record 35th career touchdown with an eight-yard run extended Stonehill's lead to 17-0 three plays into the second quarter and then freshman Bryson Carter carried the ball in from 11 yards out four plays after the Skyhawks recovered an on-side kick after the Felder score.
  • Franklin Pierce got on the scoreboard on its first possession of the second half when freshman Cole Alexander connected with classmate Kyle O'Connor for a 20-yard touchdown pass to cap an eight play, 72-yard drive.
  • Stonehill closed the game out from there with Felder adding a 22-yard touchdown run on the Skyhawks ensuing possession with 6:45 remaining in the third quarter and then Shelbred added a 36-yard field goal in the final minute of the third.

Stonehill (7-2, 5-2 NE10) closes out the 2021 season next Saturday when it visits Southern Connecticut State University for an NE10 matchup in New Haven, Connecticut, at noon. Franklin Pierce (0-9, 0-7 NE10) hosts the University of New Haven in its season finale next Saturday at 1 p.m.
