EASTON, Mass. (October 23, 2021) - The University of New Haven jumped out to a three-touchdown lead in the opening quarter and added three more in the third quarter on its way to a 42-20 victory over Stonehill College in a Northeast-10 Conference football matchup of teams receiving votes in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II poll on Timothy J. Coughlin, '80 Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium this afternoon.

The Details

  • Postgrad Connor Degenhardt, a transfer from Holy Cross, had a role in all five offensive touchdowns scored by New Haven, passing for three and rushing for two others. He completed just nine passes on 18 attempts, but three went for touchdowns, for 151 yards.
  • Two of Degenhardt's touchdown passes went to junior tight end Kevin Foelsch who finished with four receptions for 45 yards.
  • Freshman Giye Jenkins led the New Haven defense with four solo tackles, an interception and two blocked punts.
  • Freshman Chris Domercant led the way for Stonehill with 109 yards on four receptions and a touchdown.

  • After punts on its first two possessions and a missed Stonehill field goal, New Haven opened the scoring midway through the first quarter, when Jenkins blocked the Skyhawks punt on fourth and 16 from their own 21-yard line and junior Kasi Hazzard scooped the ball and returned it ten yards for a touchdown.
  • New Haven added two more touchdowns in the final 3:05 of the opening frame as Degenhardt connected with Foelsch and postgrad Javon Turner for touchdowns.
  • Neither team scored for the remainder of the half and New Haven broke the game open with three more touchdowns in the third.
