Football Shuts Out AIC, 25-0

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 9, 2021) - The Stonehill College defense intercepted five passes and posted its first shutout in nearly two years to the date, with a 25-0 triumph over American International College in Northeast-10 Conference football action at Ronald J. Abdow Field this afternoon.

The Details

  • Junior linebacker Mike Connors was among five from the Stonehill defense to record interceptions on the afternoon, while adding four tackles (two solo), including 1.5 sacks for a loss of 13 yards.
  • Fifth-year defensive end Nate Bresson added five tackles (two solo), including 2.0 sacks, as the Skyhawks defense yielded just 157 total yards.
  • Junior Perry Shelbred drilled four field goals for the day, including a pair of 40-plus yard kicks, with a season-long 49-yard field goal to give Stonehill a 6-0 lead with 1:46 remaining in the first quarter.
  • Fifth-year Anton Stoneking completed 14-of-29 passes for 252 yards and a touchdown, with freshman Chris Domercant collecting two of those passes for 69 yards and a touchdown.

    Fifth-year Brian Kearns, Jr. added a 33-yard touchdown rush, while senior All-American Justin Felder carried the ball 29 times for 77 yards.
  • Stonehill held a 9-0 halftime lead on the foot of Shelbred, who connected on field goals of 37, 49 and 22 yards over the opening 30-minutes.
  • Stonehill found the end zone for the first time with 5:32 to play in the third quarter two plays after Sam Athy's first interception of the season as Domercant hauled in a 24-yard touchdown pass from Stoneking.
  • Kearns, Jr. broke the game open just 23-seconds later following Connors' interception with his 33-yard touchdown run up the middle untouched.
  • Shelbred capped the scoring on the afternoon with a 44-yard field goal with 5:50 to play.
