Stonehill's NE10 Elite 24 Award Recipients

EASTON, Massachusetts (March 25, 2021) –Stonehill College junior Evan Kennedy has been recognized today by the Northeast-10 Conference for his efforts in the classroom by receiving the NE10 Elite 24 Award for having the highest cumulative grade point average among all NE10's Men's Indoor Track & Field student-athletes.

The Elite 24 Award honors the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA participating at the finals site at each NE10 Championship. With the cancellation of the 2020-21 fall and winter NE10 Championships due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Elite 24 Awards are presented for those affected sports to the student-athlete across all participating teams with the highest cumulative GPA. These student-athletes represent the true essence of NE10 student-athletes earning it every day on the field and in the classroom, recognizing their effort. The inaugural year for the Elite 24 Award was the 2018-19 season.

Kennedy was the first Stonehill men's track & field student-athlete to receive the Elite 24 Award, as he earned it for the Outdoor Track & Field season in 2020, the first Stonehill student-athlete to earn the honor twice, and the fifth from the College overall. He joins volleyball graduate Rachel Dunlavy '19, women's basketball graduate Grace Carter '20, and most recently football senior Derek Ivy who earned the honors last week.

Kennedy, a neuroscience major with a 3.99 cumulative grade point average at Stonehill, has been named to the NE10 Academic Honor Roll all five semesters to date, with Academic Excellence recognition for having a 4.0 semester GPA four times, and Academic Distinction status the remaining semesters for having a GPA between 3.50 and 3.99. He has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll all five semesters and earned the St. Thomas Aquinas, Patron Saint of Students, Medal for having the highest cumulative GPA on the track and field program last spring.

Kennedy has been named to the Dean's List all five semesters and has been inducted into Nu Rho Psi neuroscience honor society. He is a two-time Excellence in Chemistry award recipient and was selected to participate in the Stonehill Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) program last summer.

Kennedy is a three-year letterwinner as a middle-distance runner for the Stonehill track & field program. He qualified for the 2020 New England Indoor Track & Field Championships for the 800-meter run and 4x800-meter relay in 2020. Kennedy also won the 800-meter run at the University of Southern Maine Invite (1:59.77) in January and was fourth in the 800m (1:58.48) at the University of Rhode Island Coaches' Tribute Invitational in February. The junior's current personal best in the 800-meter run was at the 2020 Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational where he clocked in a time of 1:55.26.

Kennedy finished eighth in the 800-meter run (2:02.87) at the 2019 NE10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships to culminate his freshman season. He turned in a fifth-place finish in the 800m (1:58.09) at the Skyhawk Invitational.
