Stonehill Athletics Statement on 2020-21 Winter Competition

Stonehill College, in conjunction with the Northeast-10 Conference, has announced that it will not participate in intercollegiate athletic competition during the 2020-21 winter season. The decision was made in consultation with our peers in the NE10 and our institutional experts on COVID-19, as the virus continues to surge across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the country.

Northeast-10 Conference Statement

Fr. John Denning, CSC, Update on Winter Athletic Competition

This was certainly a difficult decision, and Stonehill is sympathetic to its impact on our student-athletes and coaches in men's and women's basketball, men's and women's indoor track & field, men's ice hockey and our anticipated first intercollegiate season for women's swimming. The health and safety of our campus community remains our highest priority and the College remains committed to supporting the critical efforts of our community to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Stonehill remains hopeful that we will return to athletic competition later in the spring semester when this surge has passed and when sports can be played in a safe environment.

Practice and other sport specific training opportunities for Stonehill student-athletes are planned to begin again at the start of the spring semester, in accordance with established safety procedures and applicable College, local and federal government and NCAA regulations.

Stonehill understands the disappointment and impact this news brings to our winter student-athletes, coaches and staff. We remain committed to honoring athletics aid agreements that have been issued to student-athletes for the 2020-21 academic year in accordance to the terms and conditions laid out in those agreements.
