Stonehill Athletics Kicks Off Voter Registration Drive on National Voter Registration Day

Stonehill aims for 100% voter registration across its 23 varsity athletic programs by October 1

EASTON, Mass. (September 22, 2020) - The Stonehill College athletic department, led by its Task Force to Address Racial Injustice and in conjunction with the Northeast-10 Conference, have announced a voter registration drive to promote 100% voter registration among eligible student-athletes and coaches on its 22 intercollegiate athletic programs by October 1. The drive has kicked off today as part of National Voter Registration Day in the United States.

Teams that are able to have 100-percent of its eligible student-athletes registered to vote by the October 1 deadline will promote their 100% status with a graphic indicating such via athletic department and team social media accounts. Student-athletes and coaches will also be promoting their voter status with a graphic and social media post as well. Stonehill students are asked to use the link stonehill.turbovote.org to register to vote and those who are already registered can verify that via www.vote.org/am-i-registered-to-vote.

Components of the drive will include informational posts on the Stonehill Athletics social media accounts (@GoStonehill on Twitter, StonehillSkyhawks on Facebook and @StonehillSkyhawks on Instagram) regarding voter registration, absentee ballots, links to voter resources in all 50 states, reminders for deadlines and debate days, and a focus on celebrating the right to vote.

The Stonehill Athletics Task Force to Address Racial Injustice will provide tools and educational resources developed by nonpartisan organizations to answer questions on candidates, ballots and polls. Vote.org will be the primary resource for all voting-related information, while ballotpedia.org provides non-patisan information on candidates.

Stonehill has also joined its fellow Northeast-10 members and has suspended all countable athletic-related activities on Election Day, November 3, in order to encourage student-athletes to exercise their right to vote.

With 23 intercollegiate sports, Stonehill boasts one of the top athletic and academic programs in the country. Stonehill has won the Northeast-10 Conference Presidents' Cup six times, all coming within the last 15 years. The Skyhawks have received the NCAA Division II Presidents' Award for Academic Achievement each of the first nine years of the program's existence of honoring institutions with an Academic Success Rate (ASR) of 90-percent or better. Stonehill has earned a 95% Academic Success Ranking (ASR) by the NCAA, which considers the academic success rate of the institution based on the graduation rate of student-athletes, good for tenth among all NCAA Division II institutions, with nine Skyhawk teams receiving a perfect rating of 100%. Stonehill won seven NE10 Championships during the 2019-20 academic year, with six programs earning NCAA Division II Championship bids.
