Women’s Track & Field Posts Four Event Wins at Merrimack Carnival

Lombardi finished first for the second time in her career, this time in the 3000-meter run

NORTH ANDOVER, Massachusetts (April 23, 2021) – The Stonehill College women's track & field team competed at Duane Stadium Friday afternoon against Merrimack College, Bentley University, and Saint Anselm College in the Merrimack Track & Field Carnival.  

The Skyhawks saw four first-place finishes in the meet including sophomore Victoria Lombardi, senior Casey Gannon, senior Kathleen Giusti, and junior Krista Stracqualursi.

Highlights:

  • In her first 3000-meter race of her collegiate career, Lombardi earned her second-career first-place finish. Two weeks ago, the sophomore finished first in the 5000-meter run at the Stonehill/Bentley Dual Meet. Lombardi clocked in a time of 10:40.54 at the meet today.
  • Gannon earned her fourth first-place finish of the season, taking home first in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking in a career-best time of 14.86-seconds. She also was the runner up in the 400-meter hurdles, running the event in 1:05.50.
  • Giusti took home her second first-place finish of the season, taking home the title in the high jump with a height of 1.58m (5-feet, 2.25-inch).
  • Stracqualursi, with her fourth first-place finish this season, earned the title in the discus throw with a mark of 38.85m (127-feet, 5-inch). She also competed in the shot put and hammer throw where she placed second. In the shot put, she threw a distance of 11.33m (37-feet, 2.25-inch), while she measured a career-best throw with the hammer hitting a distance of 36.94m (121-feet, 2-inch).
  • Junior Rebecca Erhard and sophomore Jillian Callahan also competed in the 3000-meter run, where they followed Lombardi in second and third place, respectively. Erhard, taking second in the event, clocked in a career best time of 10:40.54, while Callahan, finishing third, ran a time of 11:05.02.
  • The Skyhawks saw four finish in the top 6 of the 1500-meter run, including junior Claire Mason, senior Sophia Anderle, freshman Caroline Surrette, and sophomore Erin Johnston. Mason finished second out of 16 competitors, clocking in a career best time of 4:51.80, while Anderle was right behind her with a time of 5:01.56. Surrette placed fifth with a personal best time of 5:05.48 and Johnston ran the event in a career best time of 5:06.35, good for sixth.
  • Also competing in the high jump was freshman Cassidy Becker, who took home fourth, clearing a career best height of 1.53m (5-feet, 0.25-inches). The freshman also competed in the long jump, measuring a career best distance of 5.27m (17-feet, 3.5-inch), taking home fourth. In her third event of the day, Becker ran in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing seventh with a time of 15.72-seconds.

Other Performances:

  • Freshman Abigail Larsson placed right behind Becker in the long jump with fifth place, measuring a career best mark of 5.25m (17-feet, 2.75-inch). She also competed in the pole vault, taking home fifth, and the 100-meter sprint, taking 11th.
  • In the javelin throw, sophomore Kaley Enright earned a third-place finish, throwing the apparatus 31.83m (104-feet, 5-inch) on her first throw. Junior Isabelle Angelini followed her for fourth place, throwing the javelin 30.51m (100-feet, 1-inch).
  • Sophomore Elizabeth Marshall saw a top-five finish, as she placed third overall out of 11 competitors in the 800-meter run, clocking in a time of 2:28.28.

Stonehill is scheduled to return to the track for 2021 Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts, on May 6-7.
