NE10 FIRST ROUND: Women’s Tennis Drops NE10 First Round Clash at Adelphi, 4-2

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (October 20, 2021) - Fourth-seeded Adelphi University posted a 4-2 victory over fifth-seeded Stonehill College in first round action of the 2021 Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis tournament at the Adelphi Tennis Courts this afternoon.

  • Adelphi (9-3, 7-3 NE10) advances to Friday's NE10 semifinal round, where it will meet top-seeded Le Moyne College at 1 p.m. Stonehill sees its fall season come to a close with a 6-5 record overall, including 6-4 in the NE10 to make its Conference-record 22nd Tournament appearance. The Skyhawks streak of seven-straight trips to the NE10 Championship match will come to an end.
  • Junior Julia Kielan led three double-winners for Adelphi, playing a role in two clinching points for the Panthers.
  • Senior Emma Markaryan and junior Cristina Solorzano Valencia earned points for Stonehill with their singles wins.
  • Kielan and sophomore Carolina Chaves first clinched the doubles point for Adelphi with their 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
  • Kielan the posted a 6-2, 7-5 decision at No. 5 singles against freshman Marissa Such to clinch the match win for the Panthers to advance to the semifinals.
  • Solorzano Valencia, ranked No. 4 in the ITA East Region rankings, won Stonehill's first point with her 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles against Adelphi junior Louisa Junghannes.
  • Markaryan battled back from a set down to earn Stonehill's second point, defeating freshman Caterina Federici 5-7, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
  • Senior Barbie Quagliardi and Chaves we also double winners for Adelphi.
