EASTON, Mass. (January 24, 2024) – Stonehill College senior captain Sydney Stockwell continues to make history by earning Northeast Conference Swimmer of the Week recognition in the College's second year of membership the league office announced today.

Stockwell, who also earns NEC Prime Performer status for the third time this season (sixth career), is the first Stonehill swimmer to collect Swimmer of the Week accolades over either of its conference affiliations over the program's four-year history. Stockwell was the first Stonehill swimmer to receive a weekly award of any kind when she earned the first Rookie of the Week recognition as members of the Northeast-10 Conference during the 2021-22 season. Her six NEC Prime Performer selections is also a program-best, while matching her own program-high of three selections in a season.

Stockwell came out flying as Stonehill opened its second semester schedule with a pair of dual meets at Brandeis University and Siena College last week. She set the No. 2-ranked time in the NEC for the 100-yard individual medley relay to highlight top two finishes in all eight of her swims over the two meets, including relays, with three individual event wins and part of two relay wins.

Stockwell earned four top two finishes, including three wins (two relays), in Wednesday's 104-61 win at Brandeis. She won the 100-yard individual medley relay in a school-record 1:01.91, which is ranked No. 2 in the NEC, and added a second-place finish in the 50-yard backstroke in 27.49-seconds. Stockwell was part of two relay wins, swimming the lead backstroke leg of Stonehill's 200-yard medley relay that finished in 1:50.16, along with the third leg (24.96) of the Skyhawks 200-yard freestyle relay that won in 1:40.75.

Stockwell posted four top two finishes, including two individual wins, at Siena on Saturday. She notched a second-straight individual medley win, this time in the 200-yard event in 2:19.77, while posting a second backstroke win for the week, clocking in at 59.92-seconds at 100-yards. She has also been part of four relay wins, two coming in the 200-yard freestyle relay, and has totaled 21 top five individual finishes, including 20 top threes, and nine top three relay finishes. She also qualified for the A-Final of the 100-yard backstroke at the URI Harold Anderson Invitational, finishing third overall, and qualified for the B-final of the 200-yard backstroke.

Stockwell is ranked in the top ten in three individual events, as well as four relays. In addition to her No. 2 rank for the 100-yard IM, she is ranked fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (57.15) and seventh in the 50-yard backstroke (27.11), as well as 11th in the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.45). Stockwell currently holds five individual Stonehill records, including all three backstroke distances, and is part of four school-record relays. She is one of the program's first two College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honorees in program history, earning the recognition as a junior. Stockwell captured a New England title in the 200-yard backstroke as a sophomore, posting six podium finishes overall at the 2022 New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving (NEISDA) Championships, after earning one of the first two podium finishes in program history at the 2022 NE10 Championship with a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke.

Stonehill is back in the pool on Saturday, when it hosts NEC rival Merrimack College for Senior Day at Massasoit Community College at 1 p.m. Prior to the meet, Stonehill will recognize Stockwell and her fellow seniors: Maddie Conley, Morgan Gangi, Katie Keating and postgrad Nika Sokolova who are the first four-year class in program history.
