Women's Swimming Opens by Hosting Sacred Heart

Pioneers record 133.0-110.0 win in matchup of NEC foes

BROCKTON, Mass. (October 7, 2023) – Senior Sydney Stockwell and sophomore Kristy Barry each earned event wins to lead Stonehill College in a women's swimming dual meet with fellow Northeast Conference member Sacred Heart University at the Massasoit Community College Pool this afternoon.

Stockwell won both backstroke events in the meet, starting with first in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.08, with postgrad Nika Sokolova second in 1:01.62. Stockwell also took first in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:12.85, while sophomore Mazy Karuzis finished fourth in 2:18.31 after posting a fifth-place finish in the 100-back in 1:04.45.

Stockwell was also scored first in the 100-yard butterfly by clocking in at 1:02.03, followed by senior Katie Keating in 1:04.46 for second. Stockwell also swam the lead leg of Stonehill's 400-yard medley relay that finished second in 4:08.00. She was followed by junior Jami Hepburn, Keating and Barry.

Barry earned a win in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:33.33, followed by a win in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:16.65. Senior Morgan Gangi was scored second in the 200 IM in 2:33.31. Barry led three Stonehill swimmers in the 200-yard freestyle with a third-place finish in 2:05.97. Junior Julie Mastroianni was fifth in 2:13.06, while senior Maddie Conley was sixth in 2:14.40.

  • Hepburn finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:10.44 and third in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:36.79. Sophomore Taylor Belanger followed in fourth in the 200-yard 1:12.16, while Gangi was fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:19.56 and Conley was sixth in 2:46.29.
  • Sokolova was also second in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:47.59 and fourth in the 100-yard freestyle in 57.87-seconds.
  • Mastroianni took third in the 500-yard free, while sophomore Isabel Nelson was fifth in the 100-yard free in 1:00.44 and Keating was scored sixth in 1:01.90.
  • Sophomore Azia Koser finished third in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:18.63 after posting a fourth-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:43.19.
  • Belanger was scored fourth in the 50-yard freestyle in 27.35-seconds, followed by Karuzis in fifth in 27.39-seconds and Nelson was sixth in 27.49.
  • Stonehill was also scored first in the 200-yard freestyle relay after finishing in 1:49.08. Mastroianni swam the lead leg, followed by Belanger, Hepburn and Karuzis.
