2023 NEC Women's Swimming & Diving Championship

GENEVA, Ohio (February 24, 2023) – The Stonehill College women's swimming team continued their time at the 2023 Northeast Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championship meet at the Spire Institute Pool in Geneva, Ohio, finishing day four. The team continues to make new team records and personal bests.

Highlights

  • In the 400-meter medley relay, Stonehill's team of Sydney StockwellJami HepburnKatie Keating, and Kristy Barry topped a previous program record with an impressive time of 3:57.65. With their new record-setting time, the Skyhawks grabbed eighth place in the event. 
  • Hepburn earned the highest finish on the day with a top-10 finish in the 100-yard breaststroke as the sophomore set a new personal-best with a time of 1:05.79 and earned seven points.

  • Stonehill had their most swimmers (three) competing in the 100-yard backstroke led by an 11th place finish from Stockwell when she swam across the finish line at 58.17 for six points. Shortly after Stockwell, Mazy Karuzis notched 16th place (59.99) and also grabbed one point. Finally, Nika Sokolova rounded out the swimmers for the Skyhawks with a 19th place finish (59.60). Both Karuzis and Sokolova each set new career-bests in the event.
  • Along Hepburn in the 100-yard breaststroke, Taylor Belanger also partook in the event and earned a 16th place finish at 1:08.39 for one point. 
  • Azia Koser grabbed 17th place in the 200-yard butterfly when she swam to a time of 2:11.28. 

Head Coach Matthew Distler spoke about how the swim team has performed after the fourth day of the NEC Championship:

"Today was a great day for us as a program," said Distler. "We had our programs first ever individual point scorers in both backstroke and breaststroke as Sydney Stockwell, Mazy Karuzis, Jami Hepburn and Taylor Belanger all placed top 16. We also broke the only relay record we had not broken yet this season! I can't wait to see what we can do on the final day of the meet."
