Women's Swim Edged by Merrimack College

Andover, MASS. (January 22, 2023) – The Stonehill College women's swimming team took the road for an away dual meet against Merrimack College, battling until the end, finishing with close scores and snagging some first-place finishes for the team.

The Details

  • Senior Sydney Stockwell (Hopkinton, N.H. / Hopkinton) competed in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.53) and the 200-yard backstroke event (2:14.89), clutching a first-place finish in both events. Stockwell also placed first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.43.
  • Freshman Kristy Barry (Ellsworth, Maine / Ellsworth HS) had a big finish in the 400-yard IM event, placing first with a time of 4:52.42.
  • Junior Katie Keating (East Lyme, Conn. / East Lyme) had an impressive first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:17.67.
  • Sophomore Jami Hepburn (Nassau, Bahamas / AESA Prep International) swam in the 200-yard breaststroke event (2:36.52), grabbing a first-place finish. Hepburn also swam in the 100-yard breaststroke, grabbing second place in a time of 1:11.20.
  • Stockwell, Belanger, Lundell, and Barry competed in the 200-yard medley relay, taking first place with a time of 1:53.82.

  • Freshman Mazy Karuzis (Fryeburg, Maine / Fryeburg Academy) took to the pool to compete in the 50-yard freestyle (27.27) and the 100-yard freestyle event (59.12), placing in second for both events. Karuzis also swam in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in third place with a time of 1:03.18.
  • Freshman Azia Koser (Janesville, WI. / Milton HS) swam in the 1000-yard freestyle, with a close second-place finish in 11:28.56. Koser also swam in the 500-yard freestyle, placing third with a time of 5:47.48.
  • Junior Nika Sokolova (Andover, Mass. / Andover) placed second in both the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.89) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:15.82).
  • Freshman Isabel Nelson (Schenectady, N.Y. / Niskayuna HS), Sokolova, Karuzis, and Barry competed in the 400-yard freestyle relay, grabbing second place with a finishing time of 3:51.14.
  • Sophomore Sofiya Gobora (Sarasota, Fla. / Pine View School) swam the 200-yard freestyle, placing third with a time of 2:08.32.
  • Sophomore Sharlotte Lundell (Bourne, Mass. / Sturgis East Charter School) competed in the 200-yard butterfly event, taking third place with a time of 2:25.35. Lundell also competed in the 400-yard IM with a time of 5:13.46, placing third.
  • Freshman Taylor Belanger (Lewiston, Maine / Cheverus High School) competed in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:12.12, grabbing third place.

Up Next

Stonehill is back in the pool on Saturday, January 28th at 1 p.m. to compete against Siena College at the Marcelle Athletic Center in Latham, N.Y. The following weekend, the Skyhawks host the Purple & White Senior meet at the Massasoit Community College Pool in Brockton, Mass at noon.
