EASTON, Mass. (March 25, 2023) – Wagner College used a pair of runs between the first and third quarters to overcome an early deficit and secure a 19-10 victory over Stonehill College in Northeast Conference women's lacrosse action on Timothy J. Coughlin, '80 Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium this afternoon. 

Highlights

  • Postgrad Lauren DiStefano made 12 saves in the Wagner goal, while adding two caused turnovers and six ground balls.
  • Senior Emily Wesoky led three four goal scorers for Wagner, adding an assist for a team-high five points in the contest. Senior Megan Greco and sophomore Katie Siverson also scored four goals for the Seahawks, with Siverson also contributing six draw controls.
  • Junior Kelsey Scheidel and sophomore Sophia Colver each tallied three goals and an assist for Wagner, with Scheidel chipping in three draws, four ground balls and two caused turnovers, while sophomore Ella Marino totaled a goal and three assists for the Seahawks.
  • Senior All-American Lydia Rudden matched her season-high with five assists to go with a goal for a game-high six points to lead Stonehill.
  • Postgrad All-American Emma Sullivan and junior Molly Mae Hughes each contributed two goals and an assist for the Skyhawks, with Sullivan adding two draw controls, two groundballs and a caused turnover.
  • Senior Kayla Conway chipped in two goals, while sophomore Sarah Faley finished with seven saves in the Stonehill goal, with a caused turnover and five ground balls.

    Stonehill jumped out to a three-goal lead less than two minutes into the game as Rudden and Sullivan connected on the first two goals as Sullivan fed Rudden for her 11th goal of the year just ten seconds in and then Rudden dished her first assist to Sullivan 62-seconds later to double the lead. Rudden followed with an assist on Hughes' first of the game 24-seconds later for the Skyhawks first of two three-goal cushions.
  • Scheidel scored Wagner's opening goal with 10:29 to go in the first quarter and then junior Lilly Leach restored Stonehill's three-goal lead with 7:48 left in the frame.
  • Wagner scored the last three goals of the first, from three different players, to knot the score (4-4) heading to the second and the Seahawks extended their run to six goals to grab the lead for good (7-4) after Greco's first of the day with 12:22 left in the first half. Colver finished with two goals and assist during the six-goal run.
  • Freshman Gabriella Parisi and sophomore Sofia D'Agostino sandwiched a goal from Scheidel to pull Stonehill back within two (8-6) with three-minutes to play in the half.
  • Scheidel capped the first half scoring with 15-seconds left to restore Wagner's three-goal lead at the intermission and then the Seahawks scored the first six goals of the second half to break the game open.
  • Siverson and Greco each scored three times during the six-goal run for Wagner to start the third.
  • Rudden dished out two assists as Stonehill got goals from Hughes, Sullivan and Conway to draw Stonehill back within seven (16-9) with 12:57 still to play, but Wagner sealed the win by scoring three of the last four goals, including two by Wesoky.

Noteworthy

  • Rudden has multiple assists in her fifth-straight game and has now totaled 125 helpers for her career to pull within three of Stonehill's career record of 128 by Jenny McGrath, '06. Rudden is also just five points shy of becoming the program's 14th 200-point scorer.
  • Sullivan has multiple goals for the sixth time this season and moved into ninth place on Stonehill's career goals list with 149.
  • Hughes has multiple goals for the second-straight game, as does Conway who has netted multiple goals in four games this season overall.
