The Tewaaraton Foundation releases 2023 Watch List

EASTON, Mass. (February 13, 2023) – Stonehill College postgrad Emma Sullivan has been named to the 2023 Tewaaraton Award Watch List, The Tewaaraton Foundation has announced.

The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation. The Watch List includes the top players across all three divisions of NCAA lacrosse and highlights the early contenders for the 2023 Tewaaraton Award.

Sullivan is just the fourth student-athlete in the prestigious history of the Stonehill women's lacrosse program to earn a spot on the Tewaaraton Watch List and the program's first since two-time selection Michelle Kelly, '09 in 2009. Stonehill and Northeast-10 Conference Hall of Famer Erin Acone, '06 was also a two-time Tewaaraton Award Watch List selection, along with fellow Stonehill and NE10 Hall of Famer and current head coach Katie (Lambert) Conover, '03. Sullivan is the lone Northeast Conference student-athlete named to the Watch List for the 2023 season.

Sullivan returns for her final year at Stonehill as a postgrad after leading a revival of the Skyhawks program in 2022. Stonehill, which is entering its first season at the NCAA Division I level as a member of the NEC, capped its NCAA Division II chapter in style, capturing a share on the NE10 regular season championship on its way to the NE10 Tournament title and the top seed for the NCAA Tournament's East Regional, hosting the championship at W.B. Mason Stadium and finishing with an 18-3 record overall, including 12-2 in the NE10.

Sullivan was named the Division II Midfielder of the Year by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and earned IWLCA All-America and All-East Region first team accolades last season as well. The two-time NE10 Midfielder of the Year and two-time All-NE10 selection, enjoyed a record-setting spring that saw her set Stonehill single-season marks and lead the NE10 with 74 goals, 78 ground balls, 148 draw controls and 48 caused turnovers, while ranking second in the NE10 to fellow Stonehill All-American Lydia Rudden with 92 points, while dishing out 18 assists in 21 starts. She ranked 11th nationally in Division II for goals scored, 11th with 2.29 caused turnovers per game, 12th with 7.05 draw controls per game and seventh with 3.71 ground balls per game, while her 92 points ranked 18th nationally.

Sullivan, who received an Athletic Director's Award last spring and was named Stonehill's "Breakout Sophomore" Award recipient for the spring season in 2020, was named to the NE10 Academic Honor Roll multiple semesters over her career. She has surpassed both 100 points and 100 goals in her 52 career games played, totaling 134 goals and 33 assists for 167 career points, contributing 233 draw controls, 137 ground balls and 73 caused turnovers in her career. She enters her final season ranked second all-time in program history for career draw controls, while ranking 12th all-time in career goals, ninth in ground balls and seventh in caused turnovers.

Stonehill, picked to finish sixth in its inaugural NEC season by the Conference's head coaches, opens its inaugural NCAA Division I season on Wednesday, when it visits Boston University for a non-conference matchup at Nickerson Field at 4 p.m. The Skyhawks home opener is scheduled for the following Wednesday, February 22, when it hosts UMass Lowell at W.B. Mason Stadium at 7 p.m. Stonehill's NEC opener is Saturday, March 18, at Fairleigh Dickinson at 1 p.m., with its first NEC home contest slated for Saturday, March 25, against preseason favorites Wagner College at 1 p.m.
