EASTON, Mass. (February 22, 2023) – The University of Massachusetts Lowell used a seven-goal run to erase an early deficit on its way to a 21-10 victory over Stonehill College in a non-conference women's lacrosse matchup at W.B. Mason Stadium tonight. 

Highlights

  • Sophomore Jade Catlin totaled six points with three goals and three assists for UMass Lowell, adding two caused turnovers.
  • Junior Megan Brockbank scored a team-high five goals for UML, while freshman Audra Hansen registered four points with three goals and an assist.
  • Senior Molly Shaw also netted three goals for the River Hawks, adding two ground balls, while classmate Izzy Liquori scored a pair of goals and collected a team-high eight draw controls.
  • Sophomore Sofia D'Agostino, a UMass Lowell transfer, scored a career-high five goals to lead Stonehill's scorers.
  • Junior Lilly Leach totaled two goals and two assists for the second-straight game for the Skyhawks, adding a season-high ten draw controls.
  • All-American Emma Sullivan contributed three points with two goals and an assist, adding four draws, two ground balls and a caused turnover.
  • Freshman Hannah Shaddock finished with seven saves in the UMass Lowell goal.
  • Junior Claire Smith and sophomore Sarah Faley split the goalkeeping duties for Stonehill, with Smith posting a career-high four saves in the second and fourth quarters and Faley notching a save while playing the first and third.

How it Happened

  • Stonehill, which finished with an 18-15 edge in draw controls for the contest, fed off collecting five of the first six draws in the game, by scoring the first two goals.
  • Leach opened the scoring for Stonehill for the second-straight game with a free-position goal 30-seconds into the game.
  • D'Agostino doubled the Skyhawks lead 64-seconds later off a pass from Sullivan for her first goal of the season.
  • After Brockbank scored UMass Lowell's first goal two minutes later, D'Agostino struck again with a free-position tally for a 3-1 Stonehill lead less than four minutes into the game.
  • UMass Lowell followed with a seven-goal run to grab a five-goal lead (8-3) after Shaw's first goal of the game, assisted by Catlin, with 1:47 to play in the first quarter. Catlin also scored a goal during the run, while Brockbank and Liquori netted two goals apiece.
  • Sullivan broke up the run with her first of the night, assisted by senior All-American Lydia Rudden with 34-seconds remaining in the first, but UMass Lowell scored three times over the first six minutes of the second to open an 11-4 lead.
  • Sullivan again broke the run with her fourth goal of the year, assisted by Leach, with 5:28 to play before halftime.
  • UMass Lowell scored the final two goals of the half and then the first two of the second to stretch its lead to ten (15-5) after Brockbank's fourth of the game with 12:47 remaining in the third quarter.
  • Stonehill was unable to string together multiple goals the rest of the way and Shaddock posted four of her seven saves in the fourth quarter to finish off the win.

Noteworthy

  • D'Agostino scored two goals in four games played as a freshman at UMass Lowell in 2022.
  • Tonight marked the first meeting all-time between the two programs as the River Hawks added women's lacrosse after elevating to Division I from the Northeast-10 Conference in 2013.
  • Leach collected double-digit draw controls for the fifth time in her career.
