Men's Track & Field Seventh at Tufts Snowflake Classic

Shaw leads seven top five finishes for Skyhawks by placing second in 1500-meter run

MEDFORD, Mass. (April 2, 2017) – The Stonehill College men's track and field program posted seven top five finishes in posting a seventh place team finish at the Tufts Snowflake Classic, hosted by Tufts University, at Dussault Track today.

Sophomore Matthew Shaw (Goffstown, New Hampshire/Goffstown) finished second, but earned first place points for Stonehill as the top attached runner, in the 1500-meter run with his personal-best time of 4:03.14. Junior James Murphy (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Mansfield) placed ninth in the field of 82 runners in 4:06.53, while classmate Sam Bradford (Bedford, Massachusetts/Bedford) took 15th in 4:09.74 as the trio led seven Skyhawks competing in the event.

Junior Mark Hamalian (West Bridgewater, Massachusetts/Bridgewater-Raynham) was fourth, out of 22 competitors, in the long jump as he cleared 20-feet, 5.00-inches. Classmate Joshua Hubbell (Gloucester, Massachusetts/St. John's Prep) placed eighth with a distance of 19-4.00. Sophomore Joe Connolly (Wilmington, Massachusetts/Austin Prep) finished fourth in the 100-meter dash final in 11.30-seconds after qualifying seventh, out of 47 entries, with a time of 11.40-seconds.

Junior Jason Dimmick (Sutton, Massachusetts/Sutton) placed fourth, out of 62 competitors, in the 800-meter run with his time of 1:58.32. Freshman Jeremy Breen (Watertown, Massachusetts/Watertown) took 17th in 2:03.57.

Freshman Andrew Scarlotto (Portsmouth, New Hampshire/Portsmouth) finished fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.86-seconds. Sophomore Daniel Madsen (West Haven, Connecticut/Notre Dame-West Haven) placed 11th out of the 51 entries in 51.57-seconds.

Freshman Atiba McLaren (Pittsford, New York/McQuaid Jesuit) finished fifth out of 20 runners in the 400-meter hurdles in 58.94-seconds. Junior Jordan Sullivan (Sound Beach, New York/Miller Place) placed fifth out of 19 entries in the high jump by clearing 6-feet, 2-inches.

Stonehill finished seventh in the team standings with 47 points as host Tufts University won the event with 153 points, followed by Rensselear Polytechic Institute with 104.50 points and then Worcester State University with 102.50. 

Other Stonehill Highlights Include:

Junior Stefan Balestra (Lincoln, Rhode Island/Lincoln) placed sixth out of 28 entries in the hammer throw with a distance of 150-feet, 9-inches.

Freshman Alexander Buchan (Norton, Massachusetts/Norton) took seventh in the javelin throw with his distance of 151-feet, 10-inches.

Freshman Collin Kuchachik (Orange, Connecticut/Amity Regional) finished seventh in the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.26-seconds after qualifying fifth out of 15 entries in 16.41-seconds.

Sophomore Darren Shi (Yarmouth, Maine/Yarmouth) placed ninth out of 37 throwers in the shot put with a distance of 43-feet, 5.00-inches.

Stonehill is back in action next Saturday, April 8, at the Yellow Jacket Invitational, hosted by American International College, in Springfield, Massachusetts, starting at 10 a.m.
