11 Men's Track & Field Athletes Earn 14 USTFCCCA All-Region Honors


Santo caps his collegiate career with his sixth and seventh All-East Region awards, having broken a pair of school records this spring.

USTFCCCA Announces All-Region Honorees

EASTON, Mass. (May 22, 2017) – Eleven members of the Stonehill College men's track and field program have earned a combined 14 All-East Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The awards recognize each region's top five performers in individual events and top three teams in relay events.

Senior Joe Santo (Newburyport, Massachusetts/Newburyport) and juniors Mark Hamalian (West Bridgewater, Massachusetts/Bridgewater-Raynham) and Joshua Hubbell (Gloucester, Massachusetts/St. John's Prep) lead the list of honorees by posting All-Region performances in two events each. Santo picks up his fourth and fifth All-East Region awards of the year for Santo, marking his second-straight performance in the 10,000-meter run and first for the outdoor 5000-meter run after collecting All-Region honors during the cross country season as well as a pair for indoor in the 3000 and 5000-meter runs. Hamalian doubles up on All-Region honors for the first time in his career with his second straight honor in the decathlon to go with his first performance with the long jump. Hubbell also earns a pair of All-Region honors for the first time in his career, giving him three total with his second award with the 4x400-meter relay, and his first for the long jump.

Santo has now earned All-Region honors seven times over his career, having collected the honors in cross country for the first time last fall, three indoor honors and three outdoor. He won individual Northeast-10 Conference honors this spring for both the 10,000-meter run and 5,000-meter run, posting an NCAA provisional qualifying and school-record time of 30:41.83, and then collected All-New England honors last weekend with a fifth place finish in the 5000 with an NCAA provisional and school-record time of 14:35.53.

Hamalian earns All-Region honors for the second straight year in the decathlon, having broken his own school-record with 5,921 points for a third place finish at the NE10 Championships, to go with a personal-best distance of 22-feet, 4.5-inches at the Skyhawk Invitational to earn All-Region honors in the long jump for the first time. It gives him three All-Region honors for the year after collecting the honors for the heptathlon during the indoor season and five for his career.

Hubbell also earns All-East Region honors for the long jump for the first time with his personal-best distance of 22-feet, 4.5-inches for a second place finish at the Skyhawk Invitational. He was also part of Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay which posted a season-best time of 3:18.08 at the New England Championships over the weekend, marking the second time he has been a member of an All-Region 4x400 relay over his career.

Senior Matt Baldasare (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Mansfield), who earned All-America honors as part of Stonehill's 4000-meter distance medley relay as a freshman, collects All-East Region honors for the eighth time in his career with his fourth-straight award with the outdoor 4x400-meter relay team. He has also earned indoor All-Region honors with the 4x400, as well as the DMR as a freshman, to go with six outdoor awards, having also been honored for the 400-meter dash and with the 4x100-meter relay his freshman year.

Junior Anthony Innamorati (Clinton, Massachusetts/Clinton) earns All-Region honors for the sixth time in his career with his third straight honor for the outdoor pole vault. He matched a program-record height of 15-feet, 5-inches, for the second time in his career at the New England Championships last weekend and is also a three-time All-Region performer for the indoor pole vault over his career.

Junior James Murphy (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Mansfield) and sophomores Daniel Madsen (West Haven, Connecticut/Notre Dame-West Haven) and Stephen Vercollone (Pembroke, Massachusetts/Pembroke) all earn All-Region honors for the second time in their career. Madsen earns the honors with the 4x400-meter relay for the second straight season, while Murphy earns outdoor All-Region honors for the 3000-meter steeplechase for the first time after collecting the honors at the cross country regional last fall. Vercollone is an All-Region performer for the 800-meter run, with an NCAA provisional qualifying and school-record time of 1:51.65 at the Skyhawk Invitational, after also earning the honors for the 800 during the indoor season.

Rounding out Stonehill's All-Region performers are senior Daniel Nolan (Chelmsford, Massachusetts/Chelmsford), junior Stefan Balestra (Lincoln, Rhode Island/Lincoln) and freshman Andrew Scarlotto (Portsmouth, New Hampshire/Portsmouth) as first time honorees.

Stonehill wrapped up its 2017 outdoor season having won its home Skyhawk Invitational for the ninth-straight year on its way to a third place finish at the NE10 Outdoor Championships and then a 13th place finish at the New England Championships on the final weekend of the season.
